Lyman will announce the formal beginning of the contest guessing the opening day for the Sun Road--the winner getting the mythical "keg of beer".
Here's a 9 minute video of the Sun Road opening on July 13th, 2011, one of the latest opening days ever, second only to the first opening date July15th, 1933.
The snow this year reminds me of 2011.

The snow amounts you see at Logan Pass in this video would be about average....for mid June.
This video was made in mid July. Big difference.
That said, we could still have a mid June Sun Road opening.
Later opening dates are often caused by late spring snow storms that can come as late as early June.
Wide spread 3 foot snow dumps in late May don't make the road crew happy.

Sorry. I did post something about the opening date contest back in April but after two weeks no one had responded to post a prediction so I got the impression that people were not interested in the contest this year so I took it down.
Maybe I will try again next year.

I could have sworn I picked a date this year? Or maybe I did in my mind, but never posted. Or maybe the years are starting to blend together. Oh well, I wouldn’t have won anyway- my date was July 7.

Well we have a whole year to try to get sponsors for these virtual kegs so this may work. Perhaps you would like to sponsor a keg with some of your Half Marathon winnings?
