Where to buy Stove Fuel, Bear Spray, etc in West Glacier

Post by gr82hike »

We're entering Glacier from the west side - driving in from Spokane in about 3 weeks - and looking for places in Kalispell and/or Hungry Horse and/or Columbia Falls, to buy our coleman fuel for the cookstoves, bear spray (the "best"), and any other last-minute backpacking items we need (cuz we forgot them - oops).

There are several places in Kalispell or Columbia Falls, large supermarket stores like Safeway or Super-1,

Coming in on Highway 2 you'll go right through the main part of Kalispell, and will go by several big grocery stores and other stores.

Sportsmans Ski Haus, is a large camping/hiking supply store, which used to be right on Highway 2, but their address looks weird now and they may have moved since I was there last. They would have bear spray and and a big selection other camping/hiking stuff.

There's also another outdoor supply shop right on main street in Kalispell a few blocks south of where Highway 2 crosses, Rocky Mountain Outfitters (?)
Also Snappy's Sports Center.
I think there's a big K-Mart on Highway 2 out towards the airport they may even have bear spray.

These threads have quite a bit of info

Hey gr82hike,
I'm doing the same drive tomorrow, Spokane to Glacier. I plan on stopping by Cabelas in Post Falls, ID that looks to be right outside Spokane to pickup fuel, food, etc...

Hi Matt,

yeah sportsman ski haus moved I think about 3 or 4 years ago. It's off of 93 in North Kalispell, east side of the highway, next to a target. If you thought it was large before....

I guess it just depends on what route the OP is coming from. I've always felt that snappys was more affordable. Like them both though.

If you are driving through Kalispell from Spokane, you'll drive by all sorts of places.
US 2 makes a turn to the North at a popular outdoor shop name Snappy's that often has better prices than Sportsmans(now out by Home Depot and Costco on US 93 North of Kalispell)
Jusat blocks down US 2 on the left from Snappy's is Army-Navy. (set back from the hiway. Look for Cardinal Hardware)
If you want to go to Sportsman's in Kalispell it is not out of the way and you can get back on US 2 easily, but you'll bypass Snappy's and Army Navy.

You leave Sportsman's headed North on US 93. Turn East(right) at Reserve, the first main intersection you will come to(Home Depot on the right)
Take Reserve all the way to US 2 and turn left (North)
That will have you headed towards the Airport, CFalls, etc.

I would just recommend, stay on Hwy 2, drop into Snappy's or Army Navy and pick up the things you need at either one of them, as far as regular food items, drop into Super 1 in Columbia Falls and then head for the park, if your after Counter Assault, then, Snappy's or Army Navy on Hwy 2, Kmart(small) is carrying another brand of bear spray. Also most of the small shops on the corridor into Glacier carry Counter Assault as well. Now if you want to go up 93, then drop into Sportsman's, they carry just about anything you might want of need. They have a large store, that has a lot of stuff as well, then turn right on Reserve Street and head east until you hit Hwy 2 again, then turn left.

Have a great trip.

Scheel's is on 10th Ave. South
Bighorn is on 3rd Ave. South
Big Bear is on the NW Bypass.

Google them up to get maps from the airport.

In Choteau go to the Ace Hardware on the south end of town.
