Busy Holiday Week-end At Glacier

Post by toddnick »

http://home.nps.gov/applications/glac/c ... status.cfm

I routinely check the campsite status just to get a general gage of activity in the Park. For the first time I can find (even researching back in history at the site), the following campgrounds were all full for July 3rd 2009.

Many Glacier
Sprague Creek
Rising Sun
Two Medicine
Kintla
Avalanche
Apgar
Fish Creek
St. Mary

The campgrounds near the top of this list are often full in July/August, but for all of them, especially the ones towards the bottom of the list to be full, well, I can't find another date that it has happened.

Todd,

You're obviously suffering from your Glacier Addiction again, aren't you? You can add checking campsite availability to your list...

Just to add to my Glacier addiction, it is amazing the marked increase in campground activity in the Park this year. 2008 had an increase over 2007 in nights that the campgrounds were filled but 2009 is a significant change. Did people who were there this July notice the difference in crowds this year?? The total nights filled in July at all 10 non-primitive campgrounds jumped from 110 in 2008 to 197 in 2009.

Campgrounds Filled - Total nights for July 2008 vs. July 2009

Many Glacier 29 (2008) 31 (2009)
Sprague Creek 30 (2008) 29 (2009)
Rising Sun 25 (2008) 29 (2009)
Two Medicine 3 (2008) 19 (2009)
St. Mary 0 (2008) 18 (2009)
Avalanche 8 (2008) 21 (2009)
Fish Creek 2 (2008) 18 (2009)
Kintla 4 (2008) 10 (2009)
Apgar 9 (2008) 16 (2009)
Bowman Lake 0 (2008) 2 (2009)

We camped 4 nights at Two Medicine and did notice it filled everyday. The rangers there pointed it out to us during conversation as well. There were lots of MT plates as usual, and many from Washington state too.

Many Glacier and Sprague always filled so didn't notice a 'difference'.

The increase at Fish Creek really stood out. thanks.
