From the Glacier Morning Report:
".......The Lake McDonald backcountry campground is now open after a 6 year hiatus due to the Robert Fire of 2003. This campground is accessable via a two mile hike from the head of Lake McDonald or a non-motorized paddle across the lake. There are two sites available at the campground with up to 4 people in each site and a maximum of 2 tents. This is a great opportunity to check the gear out or bring the small ones along for a backcountry experience......"
I have never seen as much cooperation from so many different departments as it took to get that campground ready. Everyone from the superintendant to the trail crew was out there digging, planting, and hauling. The site is in the same location as the old one but everything else has been built completely from scratch. It has a new unique "teacup" pit toilet. Without getting into too much description of a toilet just let me say that it redefines a throne!
