Sierra Designs tents?

Post by mattB »

I just accidentally bought two tents on ebay, a Sierra Designs Lightning 2 and a Sierra Designs Velox 2. From the research I've done I think they'll both work for me, but now I have to decide which one to keep.

Just curious if anyone out there has either of those tents and has any thoughts, comments or recommendations.

I'd intentionally bid on both tents but didn't expect to win both, I think the Velox is a little less common, less popular tent.

Please note this subtle but big difference in design.

The Lightning 2 has one door and vestibule while the Velox 2 has two. Meaning, in the Lightning 2, someone will be awakened in the middle of the night when they don't need to go. Also, in the Velox 2, both of you have a dry place for shoes & gear with two vestibules . The 3 oz weight difference is minimal ~4 lbs. 3 oz makes a difference in a sub 2 lb shelter but not a 4 lb tent.

You should go with the Velox 2 if you plan to go with a partner / friend.

I'll keep my tarp / hammock
