Was curious if any long-timers could state as to whether or not this years longer snow period is the norm or is is unusual...I have been to Glacier in 06 and 07, during the second week of July and had no issues with weather, snow in particular..
Compared to the recent past we have had a snowier winter and spring and a cooler spring. Most folks say it's like the "old days" in Glacier when snowy winters and cooler temps were normal.
1993 was a very wet, cool summer. Rained all summer with only a few dry periods lasting more than 2 days.
1964 was a year with a heavier snowpack and a cool spring. Warm early June rains on that snowpack caused the massive flooding all along the Rocky Mountain Front from Glacier to Great Falls.
Most folks think the past several years, say 1999-2007, were normal. These springs were abnormally dry and warm and followed winters that produced a lower snowpack. On the other hand I prefer the more spectacular scenery in the mountains during these types of spring. Wildflower displays are super and the white lacing of snow on the mountains is superb.
