Sizes of Backcountry Sites

Post by b_kloos88 »

If anyone has been to a backcountry site that isn't large enough for a 3-man tent (read: "2-normal-people-who'd-rather- not-smell-each-others-dinner-all-night" tent) which site(s) were they? I don't want to bring something too big for the pad. Thanks.

I think just about any site will accommodate a 3 person tent. Some might be a little tight. I some times take what REI called a 4 person tent. It can hold 4 if they are cheek to jowl but it sleeps 3 OK and 2 real nice. It seems to fit every where I've taken it.

Try to fit it on the pad without required folks to step outside the site. Many sites a marked with logs and it's a definite no-no to move the logs or trample around the outside. Take the word of someone who knows!

No worries, but it sounds like Ralph has a story to tell :P
So many mountains, so little time.

I'll go so far as to say here that my group did not move the logs and they had been moved by someone previously. Even so there is a story here maybe best left for the BBQ at Dave's. Someone will have to remind me though. :|

b_kloos88 asked about "....site that isn't large enough for a 3-man tent...."

The standard size of a designated backcountry campsite is 225 sq ft. That is supposed to allow enough room for two, 2 person tents, or in your case one 3 person tent.
