It's 8.6 miles to Brown Pass and a couple of miles from there to HOL.

Thank you! We had a permit to stay there last August, but the weather was horrible for five days during our hike that we had to cancel the hike. We hope to get another permit this summer. I was told that probably 95% of the hikers also decided to abort their plans also.

Let me guess . . . Your permit was for sometime between August 20-25? If so, I was also one of those 95%.

teapot57, I just looked at last year's email from the backcountry office and you are correct. We were to spend August 21st at Hole in the Wall.
There was another Spokane man who was spent August 22nd at HOL. He said that he and the other hikers with him were the only people that were on any of the trails and at HOL. He went on to say that it was a horrible wet and cold experience, with plenty of mud. They stayed mostly in their tents. One thing for sure, they will always remember the adventure.

I ditched my 3-night Sperry route during that window too. It was a hard decision, but for me, it was the right one. Skipped out to the Cabinets for a few days instead...I highly recommend that area! Of course it is different than Glacier, but it is also much less crowded. A nice option when the weather closes in for several days.
