Shuttles from Chief Mountain Customs to East Glacier

Transportation can be a challenge in Glacier. If you have ideas, offer ride shares, or used a commercial service that you were happy with, let everyone know. Also, ask questions about road information, or share road information you may have.

Shuttles from Chief Mountain Customs to East Glacier

Post by paul »

Does anyone know if there's still a shuttle from Chief Mountain Customs that goes to Many Glacier, St. Mary, and East Glacier?
I was looking at the Pursuit shuttles and it shows that it only runs between East Glacier and St. Mary (and reverse). Did they do away with the Chief Mountain shuttle?

I'm trying to figure out my options for transportation before scheduling a backpacking trip.

Thanks,
Paul

Hey Paul.... I'm uncertain on those specific shuttles, but I can say we have taken Backpackers Ferry from Swiftcurrent Lodge to the Belly River Trailhead right next to the Chief Mountain Customs. Just a short walk from there. We've also been picked up in East Glacier by Backpackers Ferry as well. I forget where we were going that time, but it gives you some idea if nothing else works for you.

We also had good luck with Tamarack Outdoors on the Canadian side if you need something from the border crossing there...

Cheers!
Kyle...

Thanks Kyle,

When I said Chief Mountain Customs, I really meant the trailhead there. Yeah, I wasn't sure how reliable those shuttle vendors are. I once gave a couple a ride from Chief Mountain to St. Mary since they were stranded by one of those unreliable shuttle vendors that never showed up.

You bet. 👍. We’ve used them a handful of times and have had good luck with them overall. I think one time they were a little late due to roadwork delays if I recall but that’s a bit unavoidable and even that time wasn’t bad.

But yea. I suppose as with any service, one’s mileage may vary. 👍

Cheers!
Kyle.

I’ve also used Wyett from Backpackers Ferry, and he was great. He loves sharing his knowledge of Blackfeet culture and so you learn a lot along the way. Just book a little extra time into your schedule. He was also a little late in picking us up, but it wasn’t his fault. There was a road closure on 49 and some other construction in the area. His prices were reasonable.

Thanks Teapot and Kyle, that's good to know.

Do they just support trips on the east side of the park?

I think they are just on the east side, yea.... I think that's correct....

Yea... I'd second Teapot on that.... You get a ride, and you get to learn some stuff while you're at it... I enjoyed hearing about the buffalo reintroduction program. Two thumbs up!..
