Just hours away for reservations! I hope folks get their desired dates.

On a separate note, as this is the first year I am thinking about Alaska, I checked reservations for Brooks campground, on "Fat Bears" island, which opened yesterday. Gone in a flash.

Somehow, I managed to be 55th in line for a Granite Park reservation. And miraculously I got a confirmation email about an hour later. I also asked for a Sperry reservation but ended up 1500th in line there. So finding out about that one will take awhile. But even if Sperry doesn’t come through I had a good day! I hope everyone else does as well.

We have found that you don't want to give up on this if you don't succeed at first. You just have to keep a watch for cancellations.

In 2014 we got one night at Granite. Then months later we saw a cancellation for the very next night and got that so we had two great nights at Granite.

Last year my daughter was looking for two nights at either Granite or Sperry. Initially, she got one night at Granite and was pleased to get that. Then a second night at Granite showed up a month or so later through a cancellation so she got that. Then one night at Sperry showed up and she decided she would rather have one night at Sperry than the two nights at Granite so she cancelled Granite and took Sperry. Then a second night at Sperry showed up and she got that. So it took a lot of watching and waiting but she made out very well and had a great time.

A last minute conversation the night before Chalet Day resulted in 4 of us trying to apply yesterday morning. After a couple of time outs I ended up 547th in line, and we lucked out with a 3 night stay at Sperry for 5 people. Three nights!! Will be so nice to have an unrushed stay and some flexibility on which day to hike to the Glacier.

Three nights at Sperry! It doesn't get much better than that! We were fortunate to spend three nights at Sperry in July 2001 before reservation craziness struck. We look forward to your report!
