The Glacier Park Facebook page had an interesting photo. The caption:
This photo by George A. Grant, taken July 5, 1933, shows three waitresses in Swiss costumes on the veranda of the Going-to-the-Sun Chalets. St. Mary Lake is behind them.
Louis Hill and the Great Northern Railway promoted Glacier as the “American Alps” in early marketing materials for the park. In keeping with that moniker, it seemed only logical that they chose the Swiss chalet architectural style when building their network of hotels and chalets in Glacier. This theme even manifested itself in the costumes of the hotel and chalet employees.
