Thank y'all for the comments and support.
I honestly have no idea what I'm gonna do. Fact is, I'll probably be here when they shut the place down for good. 8)
Where would I go? I've thought about it and simply don't know.

I guess I'm a little agitated at the moment. There's a lot of uncertainty regarding the sale of the next to last casino.
I'm pretty certain I'll still have a job. Hopefully with no pay reduction.
I've worked for the family for 18 years and they need somebody to look after the gaming machines in the last casino.
I know my work mate for the last 6 years will be laid off. So I'll have to assume some of his general maintenance duties at the remaining joint.

Then there is my frustration over the lack of snow and no skiing--until just recently. However now that there's snow, I can't ski or doing anything strenuous until the 2nd week of March. I get my left eye done on next Wednesday, Feb.24th. The lack of physical activity is making me crazy.
I guess the good news is my eyes should be good to go for the spring. No more wearing bifocals  Just sunglasses and "readers".
So maybe I can begin to get in shape for the coming summer. Staying fit gets tougher every year.

So there you have it.
Thanks again to all of you.
pete

I sure do miss my little buddy "Clyde".
RIP Clyde

Such a nice "remembrance portrait" of you and Clyde!
I enjoy your photos for many reasons. You take them at every season, I normally see the Park only in the summer, and your photos are GOOD ones.
Thanks again, you are appreciated!

Thank you Michele :)
I rather liked that pic of Clyde and I as well.
Yes, I like to go out in all the seasons when I can.
I went out to the park this afternoon. The weather changed constantly.
Moderate snow/graupel to the sun breaking out. Five minutes before this shot this scene was total blah.
And then some blue sky appeared and the sun lit up the clouds giving them some texture.
The change in light becoming more directional created some nice texture as well in the snow and ice on the pole and foreground.
Before the sky opened up and the sun came out, the light was quite flat. The clouds, the snow and ice on the lake had no definition/texture.
As Adam Gibbs says, "It's all about the light". FYI Adam Gibbs won International Landscape Photographer of the Year in 2018.
I like his Youtube channel.
So I think this image at the Apgar boat landing turned out well.

I like Adam Gibb too. Two words that I think describe him are honest and unpretentious. I still watch Gavin Hardcastle, but lately I fear his videos may have 'jumped the shark'. Mark Denney is pretty good. Did you see the video breaking down his photography income for the last year? YouTube is by far the biggest portion of his income. It was interesting to note how little he actually earned from selling his prints.

I wish I had Adam's patience setting up compositions and post processing.

I still watch Gavin, as much for "Amanda" as anything. 8)
But I agree, Gavin fiddles/clowns around too much. He does however make some really good images.

And I do watch Mark Denny. I did see the income breakdown. Prints were dead last. But even YouTube income is mostly from sponsors, patrons, and affiliates, and not subscriptions and "clicks".

You might like Simon Baxter's channel. He's very good and a "serious" kind of guy.
What was the model Nikon you got last year was it?

later and thanks!

I bought a Canon 80D with a 18-135 lens about Thanksgiving time 2019. Before that I had an 8mp Canon XT purchased about 2005. Even though the 80D has been around a few years, I got the camera/lens for a pretty decent price and upgraded to 24mp, which should be good for any enlargements I might want to make. 2020 was a personal washout year for me, so I'm anxious to get started using the 80D this year.

I also have a Nikon P510. A 16mp zoom lens camera that has the equivalent of a 24-1000 optical zoom which is nice for wildife shots.

Thanks for the tip on Simon Baxter I will have to check out his YouTube channel.

I agree on Adam Gibbs and setting up compositions, especially in forest. That is particularly hard for me to see. When I'm on a trail in the forest I only see trees! Lots of trees! What the heck is up with that?

BTW that photo of you and Clyde was very touching. I feel bad that you lost the little guy. It's a photo that tells a story of friendship and one of the best you have done even without trying.

Canon 80D w/18-135 is a great upgrade for you
And yeah, you can get really great enlarged prints with that setup. Both my cameras are 24Megs and you've seen what I was able to get.
It's mostly a matter of getting a well focused image and the right exposure. If 18mm isn't wide enough, do a pano if possible.

I also have a Nikon P510. A 16mp zoom lens camera that has the equivalent of a 24-1000 optical zoom which is nice for wildife shots.
That's about the same as my old Sony HX10 and I got some very good images with it. I wish I still had it but it finally died.

Thanks for the tip on Simon Baxter I will have to check out his YouTube channel.
I think you'll like him. He's all about woodland photography, especially now that he has access to some private land. The old oak trees on that land are INCREDIBLE. There are some really cool oak trees back in Virginia and in Florida. Gnarly old trees with lots of character. Nothing like it here in Montana. I'm like you though. I can't seem to get into Woodland photography. The woodlands around here are nothing compared to the mixed hardwood forests of many places in Virginia.

I agree on Adam Gibbs and setting up compositions, especially in forest. That is particularly hard for me to see. When I'm on a trail in the forest I only see trees! Lots of trees! What the heck is up with that?
Yeah, as I said above, I'm not much of a woodland photographer! :) :)

Yup, it is sad. :( That "photo" is actually a "frame" captured from a video. I'm going to get it printed one day soon.

It was sooooo much fun, especially during the winter when I'd drive out to the lodge. If B&C were around, they would fly in front of me until I parked. Clyde would hop right up to his favorite perch on the driver side mirror.

Getting my left eye done at 0630 tomorrow morning!

So in a couple weeks I will be GOOD to GO regarding my eyesight!

Thank you Sean :)
My right eye, done Feb 10 is doing really well, visual acuity is 2015 bordering on 2010.
Left eye, done Feb 24, is coming along very nicely with very little "blurring" just 4 days later.
Just waiting now for the left eye to completely heal so, I can get "readers" with the appropriate correction.
So yeah, I'm pretty happy with the results.
Thanks for asking

Thank you both! and yeah, I'm glad it's done and over...except for drops in my eyes for a while.
Just in time because...
I found out yesterday that the sale of the casino will be finalized by the end of the week.
So I'll be busy with whatever that entails for a while. I may find out more this morning.
In the meantime non work stuff is on hold.

Great to see all your pictures Pete! I’m glad you are doing well! I haven’t been on here much because we moved to south Missouri and it has taken awhile to get settled. We aren’t getting any younger. Lol!
We have kept in contact with Craig and enjoyed reminiscing about our time last summer. Looking forward to our return trip this July. We will be bringing my mom with us this year so it will be mostly sight seeing and touristy things this year, but Kevin and I will still plan to do at least one East side hike if it works out.
Maybe we will see you. I’m not sure when Craig is planning on coming out this year.

hey Tam and Kev:

Moving is a hassle isn't it. I hate moving house.
My next move is "into the ground" as I like to say 8)

Yup, that was a fun time last September. I got a nice note from Craig a while back, a REAL note--hand written
I too wonder if/when he is coming back this year. Maybe he'll see this post.
I'm sure your Mom will love the park. Hopefully she'll be able to get to go in the Many Glacier Hotel.

In other news...

The other day I went up to look at some property east of Eureka for a friend of mine who lives near Detroit.
I went "unprepared" in a couple respects which was DUMB. And almost paid a heavy price.
The property is on narrow mountain road that had anywhere from none to about 4" of new snow.
I had never been on it. I missed the "driveway", really just a dirt road that was snow covered. Easy to miss in the snow.
I thought the property was much farther north than it turned out to be....which was my fault.

Anyway between mile post 7 and 8 north of Grave creek road, I slid on the snow covered ice into a shallow ditch---
fortunately on the high side of the road.
This was in the middle of NOWHERE about a mile or two from nearest cell coverage.
I had NO shovel. But I did have plenty of "kitty litter" which I have used twice already this winter.
It took a while to dig out wheels by hand and a couple of "go's" to back out of the shallow ditch, but I finally made it.
It was a real "white knuckle" drive just easing and I mean easing down the next two miles before I got out of the snow and icy conditions.
Driving like 5mph, if that, because I had no idea what was under the snow. And as most know, once you begin sliding on ice, it's OVER.
You're at the mercy of gravity and momentum. You slide till you hit something(like the ditch)if your lucky, or go over the cliff edge, if not.
It sucks BIG time when you slide on an sketchy icy road in the mountains, trust me. 8)

As it happens when I go back Saturday, I won't have to drive as far as where the road was bad.
I now know exactly where the 22 acre plot is. It's only 2.9 miles from the Grave Creek intersection.
The road is good all the way. I'll be taking video and pics for my friend Mark to help him make a final decision on buying the property.

Oh, I forgot to say that my 4 wheel drive was NOT a 100%. The front drive shaft is going bad forward of the transfer case! 8)
It works ok at slow speeds which helped me a LOT under the circumstances. Me and my work mate are replacing it Saturday AM.

Hello Pete, Tammy, and Kevin.

I am glad you are all doing well. Pete, glad your eye procedures are done and went as planned. Yeah, driving in snow/icy conditions isn't fun, which I can attest to, as well...although, the drop-offs around here (WI) aren't as bad, clearly... Spring is here. :D

Yes, I do plan on visiting summer 2021. I will be arriving in GNP sometime on 7/30 and departing 8/13 or 8/14. All of my reservations are on the East Side: MG/SwiftCurrent, East Glacier, and Rising Sun. Looks like there's a fair amount of road construction in the area this year. I also see there are rumblings of instituting ticketed access to the GTTSR this year. Being early folk, (prior to 6:00AM gate staffing), shouldn't be an issue for us, if timed ticketing is implemented...

Pete, thanks for sharing all of your photos. I enjoy looking at them and reading about them. I tend to be quiet and don't say much, but understand people do enjoy them and appreciate your time and effort sharing with others.

Best,
-Craig
