Great to see all your pictures Pete! I’m glad you are doing well! I haven’t been on here much because we moved to south Missouri and it has taken awhile to get settled. We aren’t getting any younger. Lol!
We have kept in contact with Craig and enjoyed reminiscing about our time last summer. Looking forward to our return trip this July. We will be bringing my mom with us this year so it will be mostly sight seeing and touristy things this year, but Kevin and I will still plan to do at least one East side hike if it works out.
Maybe we will see you. I’m not sure when Craig is planning on coming out this year.
hey Tam and Kev:
Moving is a hassle isn't it. I hate moving house.
My next move is "into the ground" as I like to say
Yup, that was a fun time last September. I got a nice note from Craig a while back, a REAL note--hand written
I too wonder if/when he is coming back this year. Maybe he'll see this post.
I'm sure your Mom will love the park. Hopefully she'll be able to get to go in the Many Glacier Hotel.
In other news...
The other day I went up to look at some property east of Eureka for a friend of mine who lives near Detroit.
I went "unprepared" in a couple respects which was DUMB. And almost paid a heavy price.
The property is on narrow mountain road that had anywhere from none to about 4" of new snow.
I had never been on it. I missed the "driveway", really just a
dirt road that was snow covered. Easy to miss in the snow.
I thought the property was much farther north than it turned out to be....which was my fault.
Anyway between mile post 7 and 8 north of Grave creek road, I slid on the snow covered ice into a shallow ditch---
fortunately on the high side of the road.
This was in the middle of NOWHERE about a mile or two from nearest cell coverage.
I had NO shovel. But I did have plenty of "kitty litter" which I have used twice already this winter.
It took a while to dig out wheels by hand and a couple of "go's" to back out of the shallow ditch, but I finally made it.
It was a real "white knuckle" drive just
easing and I mean easing down the next two miles before I got out of the snow and icy conditions.
Driving like 5mph, if that, because I had no idea what was under the snow. And as most know, once you begin sliding on ice, it's OVER.
You're at the mercy of gravity and momentum. You slide till you hit something(like the ditch)if your lucky, or go over the cliff edge, if not.
It sucks BIG time when you slide on an sketchy icy road in the mountains, trust me.
As it happens when I go back Saturday, I won't have to drive as far as where the road was bad.
I now know
exactly where the 22 acre plot is. It's only 2.9 miles from the Grave Creek intersection.
The road is good all the way. I'll be taking video and pics for my friend Mark to help him make a final decision on buying the property.
Oh, I forgot to say that my 4 wheel drive was NOT a 100%. The front drive shaft is going bad forward of the transfer case!
It works ok at slow speeds which helped me a LOT under the circumstances. Me and my work mate are replacing it Saturday AM.
Later
