Here's an article from the Hungry Horse News with a little more detail:
http://www.hungryhorsenews.com/local_ne ... et_rebuild

It says between 150-250 helicopter flights each year of construction. If the construction season is mid-July to mid-October, thats 3 months, so that would worst case be an average of 3 flights per day, so if there are some days when there's 50 flights, then that would mean a LOT of days when there are NO flights, AND if they do 40-50 flights a day, then ALL the helicopter flights for that season would be finished in ONE week...

Neither article posted contains an actual link to an NPS statement.
The Hungry Horse News, to its credit, uses the future subjunctive: would.

Here is a document page.

I agree Sperry should be rebuilt, but this comes to mind:

Good link JayW I liked that presentation.

I met a guy a few years back with a backpack full of hi tech microphones and sound recording gear going into Preston Park.
The "soundscape" will undoubtedly be affected during rebuilding Sperry Chalet. It's a price we'll have to pay for the restoration.
Hopefully, it will recover as the toads did in the clip.

Makes me wonder about how car traffic has affected the soundscape of wildlife along the Sun Road over the years.

I made this clip Mother's Day morning about 8AM. Amazingly, not a car drove by during the 5 minutes I recorded this bull moose. :D
I didn't pay much attention to the "sound" during recording, as I was trying keep the moose in the frame while hand holding the camera zoomed out.
After I got home and looked at the clip I was glad I kept my mouth shut while recording. 8)

The audio is pretty good considering I did it with my lil Sony H10 P&S camera I bought for $100. :)

pete

5 minutes
Depending on your viewing system, you may have to turn your volume up. Bird sounds pick up as the video progresses.
I'd like to do more recordings like this with my Sony Camcorder which has a much better microphone pickup.

Article in the Flathead Beacon about reopening Sperry Chalet in 1999 after it had been closed in 1992. We stayed there in 2001 remember the composting toilets.
