Interesting article in the Washington Post about the 1967 bear incidents and how they changed the way bears are managed in the parks.

One item in the article that really grabbed my attention, a bear researchers speaking about the growing popularity of the park stated:
"The hordes inevitably mean that it is harder to keep bears and people apart, often because the people don’t heed park advice. Waller said rangers regularly find piles of blueberries and cans of cat food while on patrol — signs of attempts to lure predators that can weigh 700 pounds."
I hope this isn't true, I have run into the occasional slob at a backcountry campsites that doesn't follow all of the rules - but never anyone attempting to bait a bear to take a photo.
