Tent Camping in St. Mary Campground

Post by Threepeaks »

I have reserved Site 44 within the A Loop of St. Mary Campground for tent camping the first week of August this Summer 2016. I have a 9' x 14' tent, and though I have seen the limited pictures of this site when reserving, I was just checking to confirm the feasibility of a tent this size within the site. Pictures show a limited tent space in a wooded area behind picnic table that may or may not work for this tent, but my real concern is the feasibility of a tent this size in the main drive(way) of the site that also accommodates RVs/Trailers. Is there a special layout (spot) for the trailer (or tent) that is level, of just part of the drive thru that works for both? Many thanks for any input in this area. Threepeaks

In most Glacier campgrounds, I never have a problem with my tent. We've thought about downsizing, but the extra room is nice.

Were you looking at these two images of campsite 44?
The drive through is just for campers and vehicles in site 44 in your case.
Your tent goes in that area behind the picnic table in the second picture(which usually can be moved to suit you)
That site looks big enough to me for a 9x14 tent.

According to the recreation.gov website, site 44 is 10 X 20, so your tent should just fit. Whether you can get into your tent is another issue. Is the opening on the 9 or 14 foot wall?

Thanks Pete, those were indeed the pictures I was looking at when reserving. Hard to tell initially from the picture if the tent spot would be big enough. The tent opens at the end (9 foot wide) , so would be perfect if it did. If it didn't quite fit, then in front of the picnic table on the drive through would have to be my other option. Just checking as to this feasibility and if there were restrictions having a tent on the drive thru section of the site. Tent would be on gravel I understand but have a tarp for underneath, and we are on cots. Threepeaks

Thanks much teapot57. The tent does indeed open up in the front on the 9' wide section, but when looking at the dimensions available in the site description (10' x 20'), as you reference, assumed this referred to the pull in for a trailer/Rv (and not necessarily the tent spot shown). This led me to try and confirm if it didn't fit in the grassy copy shown, if any campsite restrictions for putting up a tent on whats meant for the trailer/RV. Threepeaks
