Tibber, ND. Nice. A wee bit different than northern WI.

It was -8F at the start and 3F at the finish of the workout today. (Not much wind, I think the wind chill was -19F to start.) I'm not used to the cold yet. The initial ski went well, it was when I came in and changed boots and went out for another 15 minutes of testing skis that I couldn't keep my hands warm. Maybe it was that I had a bagel, but even without eating, it's tough to get the blood flowing again after stopping in cold weather.

BTW, I spotted a shirtless guy in the parking lot (he was changing clothes.)

This forecast would be a lot better if the WIND was going to bring a lot of snow with it. sigh :(
The higher terrain has decent snow but we have close to NONE down here in the valley. It's frustrating.

Some people who live here whine about snow.
Frankly, those who don't like winter weather should get the hell out of Montana and move to Florida. 8)

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
227 PM MST Thu Jan 9 2020

.DISCUSSION...Brief, yet vigorous snow showers will be present
across the Northern Rockies through late this evening. The impact
of these snow showers should be minimal to area travel, however
conditions on secondary roads could suddenly become slick. Snow
accumulations of a heavy dusting to a half inch will be common for
west central and southwest Montana. Also, periods of light snow
may provide several dustings of snow to the Flathead Valley and
surrounding areas. Otherwise, most snow will be present over high
terrain through tonight. Patchy valley freezing fog may develop
late tonight in the Kootenai River Country of northwest Montana.

A significant snow and wind event is anticipated to develop across
the Northern Rockies Friday evening through Saturday morning. For
much of north central Idaho, accumulating snow will occur, even at
the lowest elevation locations (e.g., Riggins, Orofino). Also, a
strong surface pressure gradient is expected to develop near
Grangeville and surrounding Camas Prairie on Friday, with snow and
blowing snow to follow. The combination of snow and wind (as well
as low visibility) will make for difficult travel. Heavy snow will
also occur along the Idaho-Montana border, including the I-90
corridor west of Missoula, Highway 200 corridor northwest of
Missoula, and Highway 2 near Libby and Troy. Side and back roads
may become impossible for travel due to snow accumulations up to
10 inches. Mountain passes, such as Lookout Pass, are to expected
to receive nearly one and a half feet of snow accumulation.

The next major weather system arrives late Sunday night and Monday
morning in northwest Montana. For weeks now, cold air has been
building up in northern Canada and Alaska. With the large scale
pattern finally starting to change, the cold will be released
southward and will arrive along the front range of the Northern
Rockies and the mountains of British Columbia Sunday. What happens
after that remains uncertain.

Ensemble model systems don`t agree with each other well at all,
which really reduces our confidence in the details of the forecast
for this period. The upper level flow will be the determining
factor in how fast, how far west, and how much the cold air
affects our region. Meanwhile, that westerly flow will be carrying
enough moisture to cause snow. The main takeaways are:

* Confidence in the general forecast remains high, it will be
colder and snowy next week.
* Confidence in snow amounts is low, however, several inches in
the valleys of northwest Montana and over a foot in the
mountains of central Idaho and western Montana are possible.
* Strong north to northeast winds are typical with most of the
potential weather patterns, and it doesn`t take much snow to
blow around. So blowing snow will be an impact in northwest
Montana Monday morning.
* Blizzard conditions are still possible Monday morning in
northwest Montana.
* Cold temperatures will follow the system and be at their
coldest of the season so far Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
* Wide spread sub-zero temperatures are possible in northwest
Montana Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

Considering how mild of a winter the region has had so far, we
expect this system to be quite a shock to the region, with
possibly very dangerous blizzard conditions in northwest Montana.
Please stay tuned to the forecast this weekend as we zero in on
the details of the forecast.

It was a wild day, Deb spent much of the time early Saturday saying "Another one bites the dust" I know of 4 large trees that went down just outside the living room.

Very tense day to say the least.

Crazy windy day last Saturday. 106 mph near East Glacier, 74 in Choteau but only 67 at our house. Lots of damage in town: trees down, home damaged etc. Also there were a couple of severe dust storms causing road closures and no visibility. There were some fairly large grass fires well east of Great Falls as well.

FYI
We had a major Tstorm pass through at about 8am this morning.
Power is still out in about half the county judging by the Flathead Electric power outage map.
Gonna be hours, maybe a day or more before some areas have power again.
