The purple-pink is a color you don't see in the Midwest. Money shot. Looks great.
I'm a "hot sleeper." So I like it warm in the winter and have a hard time sleeping if I'm cold. I don't think I'd do well outdoors. Looked like you had it wired with the various layers.
Jay
31 miles on the skis today. Hope I sleep well.

I'd sleep like the dead after 31 miles of ANY sort of exercise, even watching someone do 31 miles.
Thanks on the pic. I'm gonna get it printed at a modest size like 10x20 today and see what it looks like.
Salvation Army has some large odd size frames for under $10. I may get a couple and see if I can frame this image.
It's a 2:1 aspect ratio.
I was warm enough in that little 3 season backpacking tent. I just wasn't comfortable from having to keep switching the side I was sleeping on.
I can't sleep at all on my stomach or back. Despite what I said earlier, I'm still considering camping on that ridge.
I may have to eat freeze dried food to save weight on what I have to carry up to the place I intend to camp.
We'll see. I'm working on it. A good morning for photos(clear sky and light wind) will be a COLD night and morning.
That sucks but that's the cost of getting a chance at a good image. Life's tough and then you die, right?
Gotta go to work.
later

The print of that sunset was disappointing. It just looked "flat" for lack of a better expression.
I guess sometimes images just don't work out as expected. Bummer.

When I worked in the darkroom, I'd print and view, then print a little different and view, and repeat ad nausium. I did the same thing with a pair of printers and digital images, but I got tired of keeping the nozzles clean and they died.
Anyway, one of the problems with sending out your printing is you don't know how it'll look once printed, and it's so expensive to make some adjustments and reprint that you'd never do it. I have seen Canon 11" printers on sale for about $60. (Not this Christmas but last.) Anyway, I think you could get a small printer for $100 and do some of the initial work at home before sending out an image for something larger than 11x17. I'd think your version and the lab's version should be pretty close (or maybe close enough).
I'll let you know when I get a printer up and running. (Retirement probably.) I could run a few for you cheap.

Yeah, that's a good reason to not buy a printer---of any kind. I hated screwing with the color copiers a couple of the casinos had.

I can always have small prints made. They aren't that expensive. I may also try another printer who has several choices of paper manufacturers and types of paper.

I looked printers on-line but I didn't see anything that looked decent for under $300.00. Yes, there were cheaper ones but reviews didn't look so good. Canon and Epson seem to be the only good brands. And Epson is what I see used by the better photographers I follow on line using. Those guys are using fairly spendy printers$1000 and up.

Lotta good that'll do.
I might be dead by the time you retire
But thanks for the thought!!
Jay
PS
I showed the print to a few people and they all thought it was awesome. I never know just how sincere some of the are. Then again, maybe I'm just wrong in my judgement. That's the problem when you have virtually NO experience doing something that's inherently "subjective".

Wishing you the happiest of birthdays, Pete!
Thanks Craig and Tina.
I did go out to the park yesterday toward the end of the "storm that wasn't" for pics.
Got a little video for on-line friend(s) in southern England who got 2-3 inches the other day.
That's a big deal in southern England.
I'll post it here later.
Going to be cold here the rest of the week. Not nearly as bad as Calgary or mid west, but cold enough.
Wind chill warning out until 11AM tomorrow.
https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.p ... CG3UGhKiUm
Were it now for my cataract surgery Wednesday, I'd go out tomorrow.
I have to use antibiotic drops 3 times a day tomorrow so don't want to risk going out.
The snow isn't going anywhere soon
I should be able to get out next weekend. Docs don't want me out for a couple days after the surgery.
Soooooo. Thanks for the birthday wishes. I hope all of y'all are doing well.

I wish you a very HAPPY Birthday
Pete. Heard it's getting pretty nippy.
Down here it's like this:
I don't have to work of course but as it gets deeper, it's harder to hike
Anyway, you take care Pete! Good luck with your surgery.
Tina and I hope to be up to Glacier in August.

Thanks Angela! A foot or so of sunshine would feel nice right now

Let's hope the covid-19 craziness ends before August!

Hi everyone
Several folks have asked how I'm doing after my first of two eye surgeries for cataracts.
I'm doing really well!
Actually the surgical procedure for cataract removal and cornea implant is not a big deal after all.
I hope I didn't over dramatize it in my chat posts.
While it is done at the hospital in a surgical suite, it only took about 15 minutes for the actual procedure for my right(dominant) eye.
The "prep" took about an hour. The administer a number of rounds of antibiotic drops and "numbing" drops to numb your eye and surround tissue.
Your head needs to remain absolutely rock still. They strap it down--which scares some people--but I was fine with it.
Some get IV versed if they are too anxious.
I was home less than 2 hours from when I arrived.
I get my left eye done on Feb 24.
I can already see a BIG difference in my distance vision. Check up today revealed my right eye was already at 20-20 even though it was still slightly dilated!!
And I could see the improvement driving today.
I have to take it easy for the next week. Drops in eyes 3 times a day. Can't do anything strenuous that might raise inter ocular pressure.
So no hiking, snowshoeing or skiing
However I can still drive around and do some photography like the other day.
I may drive out to Polebridge this weekend. Polebridge forecast for tomorrow morning is for temp of -31F and here's an excerpt from wind chill warning:
Wind chills of -20 to -40 degrees will be common for most locations, however places along
the Continental Divide may continue to reach down to -50 degrees
or lower through Friday morning.
So I'll wait a day or so for it to warm up
If it's clear, I should get some good photos---assuming my fingers will work.
AND...temps that cold can damage my Sony a6400. So gotta be careful about skin and camera exposure.

Glad to hear the eye is doing well.
That's cold, even by Northern MN standards. Bring in the battery.
I can shoot wearing mittens with a thin palm. Not all functions, but the main ones. Try it at home and see if it works because -30F is too cold to take off the mittens.

Glad the cataract surgery went well! I had same surgery done about a year ago. Wonderful improvement in vision! I noticed how vivid colors looked after the surgery. Your left eye should go just as well.
Incredible cold you are having out there. But it is February after all.....
