Thanks!! :)
I just hope I can keep "hanging in there". :D

Thank you!
Yeah, I've played with seeing what some images look like in B&W.
I ditched Photoshop and Lightroom so it'll have to be some other program...and I don't know what that will be right now.

Please let me know what you choose for a new photo editing software and how you like it! I'm about ready for something different.

Here's a few shots from this chilly November 1st morning.
These are from along McDonald Creek below and up creek from one of the observation decks.
I'll post a couple of sunrise shots a little later. The sunrise wasn't very colorful.

The deck is just to the left and above this point.

Same spot, or close to it 8)

Up the creek a ways for this image and the next. I liked the contrast between the calm clear water on the right and the white water on the left.

That "funnel" in the rocks in the center of this image caught my eye from way down stream. The water was just sooooooo clear, totally transparent, in the calm area and where it flowed between the rocks forming the "V". I may have to go back to this spot. There's lots of ways to shoot this spot. It's a little sketchy getting around in the rocks but not too bad since the rocks were dry today. 8)

Happy Halloween 8)
I loved this clip that my sister sent me.

I like the first one, particularly the color on the foreground rock.

Color? or lack of color? 8)
Is that a candidate for converting to B&W?
Dunno what that grey rock is. Rock is darker just up stream.

I like the first one also. I think I like just the hint of color in it. I really like the one in the other group of photos of the leaf at Lake McDonald. It just looked so peaceful to me. Really I think they are all very nice. Keep posting so we can see what we're missing.

Thanks Barb :)

That was actually the first image I took at that location. It took a while to get the tripod set right.
The rock along there is quite smooth and some was ice covered and/or wet...and that tripod has rubber feet.
Lilbit sketchy since I was right on the edge of the creek because I wanted the rock as close to the camera as possible--maybe 18" here.
This image is focus stacked, one exposure for the rock in front of the camera, and one exposure for the slabs on the far side of the creek.
Both were 1/8 second at f11.

Later, up where I made the creek shots, I talked to a biker headed for Bird Woman Overlook. He'd been to the Big Bend a few days earlier.
He and I were talking about how "peaceful" it is now that the hordes of tourists have pretty much gone home.
He was a hard core biker from Kalispell. Well traveled bike and gear. Bike had some cool looking mitten type things mounted on the handle bars.
Room for heavy gloved hands as well as chemical warmers and snacks. I wish I had the stamina for biking like that.

Here is a sunrise pano made at 7:17AM, about 6 minutes before official sunrise.
Nothing dramatic, but it was peaceful. Nobody there but me. :D
Mist on lake surface was nice.
Should print ok since the softer pastel colors tend to print better than they appear on a monitor.

What I like about the first one is the feeling that it's so cold. So it's the blue rock and blue water that I like. B&W? I think it would be fine but not unusual.

That last one is great.

I went out to Lake McDonald late this afternoon to:
1)see how my 50 year old Minolta Rokkar 35mm prime lens would perform on my Sony a6000, my mirrorless camera. (my a77m2 is a DSLR)
2) To see just how light it was when the scuba diving accident occurred.
I'm just curious as to why they scheduled their dive so late in the day.

pete

That old lens did pretty well imo :)

5:30PM and it looks quite bright because the sky is cloudless at the moment, with the sun is directly behind me, just barely above the horizon...
But it's setting fast

I liked this composition. Took this shot from waters edge down at the Apgar picnic area where the pit toilet is.

BTW what scuba diving accident are you referring to?

Not too bad for a lens I bought in the Subic Bay Navy Exchange 50 years ago in June 1970.

This 35mm lens was part of a Minolta SRT-101 camera "kit" I bought for, I think $240.00.
The kit included the camera body, with 3 prime lenses, an f1.4 58mm "normal lens, an f2.8 35mm "wide angle" lens, and an f2.8 135mm "telephoto" lens.
Later I bought a f4.5 300mm prime lens in Hong Kong for $60.00.
I still have the camera body and all four lenses. The lenses are easily adaptable to both my Sony a77m2 and my a6000.

The a6000 is a better mate for the lenses imo since the adapter is "glassless" while the a77 adapter has a lens in it.
These old lenses were really nice. They're heavy, made from brass, and the focus adjust is very precise with ZERO slop.
The glass is still clear with no sign of fungus or scratches, etc. Images from all of them look very good to me.

And THAT is a modern miracle!
I was a young "screamin' seaman" back then.
I carried that gear with me while on liberty virtually all over the world( 5 different continents) for 4 years. 8)

Just an old geezer now

Enjoying all these pics Pete!
That Pano of evening at Lake McDonald with reflection I could easily see selling for a nice price
Like others have noted, the frosty leaf on multicolored pebbles is a favorite! Great eye capturing the micro texture on the frost.
Similarly, your last two sunset shots have so much texture in the clouds. Very neat. Thank you for helping us experience the park in all seasons.
Btw, I had an experience that really helped give me a glimmer of understanding about the conditions you are willing to take on in bringing us these shots. Had a wonderful trip to Utah, ending in Colorado when winter storm Billy hit. On two days I layered up and got out walking through snow in single digit temps...,with little wind at that! I thought of you going UP deep snow on Huckleberry in a windy chill and offer huge kudos!!
Well done Geez!! And thanks again for sharing, Tam

Thanks Tammy :) I hope you're right when the day comes I have the guts to try selling any of my images.

Winter is coming on early this year so I'll be looking out for more images like that. I have a tough time getting the exposure right. It's easy to "blow out" images that have snow/ice crystals in them :(

Most welcome Tammy. :D Going out and taking pics and posting them here is one of the few pleasures I enjoy anymore.

Ha!! Once I get out of bed on these cold mornings which is not as easy as it was a few years ago... 8)
I'm usually "good to go". Some days the struggle is to get my "layers" right for the day. The snow pants I bought a couple years ago have really helped.
People growl at me when I say I hope the snow keeps on coming :D (it's snowing hard as I write this). An early snow pack will allow me to get out and begin snowshoeing and hopefully Xcountry skiing. Getting out and about will make for opportunities for some good winter images.
And the exercise will help to keep me in condition for next summer.

Well done Geez!! And thanks again for sharing, Tam
Thanks Tam and best to Mike and Nathan! :D
The clear winter air is great for getting good pics. I've learned a few things since last February when I got this shot at Lake McDonald.
I'm hoping to do better this winter!
