Pete,

Those are some great pictures. I especially like the last two - great resolution and color contrast.

Sorry for the loss of your friend.

Yeah, "John" was a cool old guy--86 years old. He came in every morning.
The weekend runner told me on Monday, the 10th John hadn't been in and hadn't answered his phone over the weekend.
So I went to check on him and found him semi conscious in his favorite chair with his 3 lil dogs. I doubt he had moved all weekend.
Cell phone battery was dead and he was out of minutes too. :(
Took him to the ER and they kept him over night.
But he refused to stay there basically saying he just wanted to go home with no heroic measures, etc.
And that's what he did....passing away on the 23rd
And I'll probably go the same way. I have an "advanced directive". :)

Take care of yourself Jay!

Thanks Bill :)
I guess I need a new monitor. Often as not my images look crappy on this one--not sharp as I think they should be.
Maybe it's because they are scaled down from original size? Frustrating.

Yeah, it was sad about my friend "John". I met him the first week I worked for the casino group back in January of 2003.
He liked playing golf and I played with him back in 2003 and '04 a few times before his COPD got too bad for him to play.

February 28th Late Afternoon

The day looked pretty good in the valley this afternoon, but one never knows if it'll still be good in the park.
Ya just gotta go and find out 8)

And today I got lucky.

There was a little breeze at the foot of the lake here at the Apgar boat ramp.
That happens frequently in the late afternoon as the cooler air sinks down the valley from the Continental Divide in the distance.
Usually the head of the lake is much smoother...as was the case today.

Image

Shot about half way to the lodge from the beach at a pullover I don't often stop at. Much smoother up here.

Same beach as above

Panographic from same place as above. I like these shots where the shorelines and reflections converge like this.
Image

Chatted a bit this guy at the "Framing Tree" beach. He was driving a Porsche Taycan(Taycans start at $100,000+) and had what looked like a large format camera of some kind. That rig you can see on top of the camera was a large auxiliary viewing display. The whole setup look really expensive to me. He seemed pretty busy so I didn't bug him too much with questions.

I drove on out to the lodge but didn't get an image that I liked. And I didn't see B&C at the lodge either.
So I decide to drive back to the framing tree for more shots from there as the sun was going down. On the way I stopped at the first pull off after you leave the lodge for this shot. Nice clouds but not really a very interesting image, but whatever... 8)

Image

While I was down getting the shot above I heard Clyde from somewhere in the trees above the road. And lo and behold, just as I was about to pull away, Clyde landed on Jaybird. Clyde is a smart bird and he knows both Jaybird and me by sight. I think B&C are nesting somewhere above the road in this area.
Shooting right into the sun :(

Image

I got these two shots back at the Framing Tree beach. This one was at 6:45PM
Image

This one was at 7:15 PM. You can see it looks a little "grainy" at lower left of the frame :(
Image

Earlier I had met a nice young couple(Mike and Steph) at the lodge. We both hung around the Framing Tree beach taking pics as the sun went down.
We had just about decided that the sunset wasn't going to be very good--we'd been looking towards the divide for alpine glow. We turned around to leave and were met with a beautiful sunset over the Apgar Mountains!

Pete, your beautiful photos from yesterday were just the pick-me-up I needed while grinding away at my desk today. The entire set was gorgeous!

My apologies for not thanking ALL of you who complimented me with your posts above.
I had composed a long "thank you" post Sunday evening. Apparently it was too long.
I never did learn to type properly and the worsening arthritis in my hands makes me type slower every year. :(

Sooooo...when I hit the post button I found I had been logged out...and the post went down the drain. :( :(

However, I do want all of you to know how much all of your compliments mean to me, especially those of you whom I consider really good photographers.

I don't have the greatest self confidence when it comes to my photography.
So, again--Thank you all so much. You've given me a real boost.
Hope to see you next time you visit.

cheers
