Park Cafe closing and not reopening next year

Post by Littlejohn Dsgn »

I just read on FB that The Park Cafe lost its contract and will be closing mid September and not reopening next year. This is very sad news, I have only eaten there 1 time but planned to make it a regular stop on our next trip.

Whoa... that's shocker. Park Cafe has been an institution on the east side as long as i can remember.

Link, please?

That's sad news. I thought the proprietors owned the place outright.

Edit to add: I have emailed Park Café for info, and to scoop up a t-shirt.

This is from the GLacier Park Conservancy facebook page
The Park Cafe, Park Grocery and the gas station are closing at the end of this season (mid-September) and will not reopen next year due to losing their contract. Very, very sad news for those of us who are perennial customers. Katherine and Rob, thank you so much for all the good food through the years! "Pie For Strength"!
I have emailed them as well -

According to the FB conversation, apparently the local family that owns the building has decided that it wants to run the business itself next year ... which means that a great many people will stop there thinking that they're still at the "old" Park Cafe, but will find themselves in for a completely different experience.

They wouldn't be able to call it the Park Cafe, though, would they? Ugh. I hope either they change their mind, or the Park Cafe's owners find another spot.

Per the return email I received: "Yes it is true, we will not be managing the Park Café next summer."

If the owners are assuming direct operations (from what I gather from this thread), they likely already own the name and may need some time to fix up the buildings.

I feel less weird about purchasing a Pie for Strength mug last year.

Selkie, did they say anything about buying a t-shirt? (or other item)

T-shirts were still available last week, before the Labor Day weekend.
If current managers own the logo and image, those things may disappear with their creators.
Store number is 406 732 4482.
If nothing else is available, the mug is a pleasant reminder in my kitchen every morning. Has same logo and image.

Pie for Strength!

Edit to add: LAST CHANCE FOR LOGO "PIE FOR STRENGTH"!

Yep, the logo goes away too.

Only mugs and t-shirts available. In t-shirts, I checked only my interests (so if your size or sleeve length is different, worth a try): Men's medium short-sleeved: black only. Women's large short-sleeved: celery only (it's sort of yellow).

With any luck the new people will continue with what the old Park Café has done. It's been a winner for years! Drastic changes to the menu or not having their wonderful pies would be a mistake in my opinion.

Actually, I'd kind of hope that the "new" cafe will work to develop its own signature style, attracting patrons on its own merit, rather than simply trying to cash in on a reputation that someone else spent thirty years working hard to create. I suspect the latter approach sounds more appealing to the building owners, though. :(
