Pics from a quick but spectacular overnighter

Post by kyled »

Sometimes the trips you plan and dream about don't materialize as planed, or not at all. But other times spur of the moment trips can greatly exceed expectations. This is a pictorial account of the later from this weekend -- a hike/climb of Black Peak in North Cascades National Park.

Loved your photos! Off to get the map out to see where those places are located...been to Washington but not familiar with North Cascades National Park.
Long way from here in Texas,

Went through the park on Highway 20 this summer on my way home from Glacier. It looks like another area to visit - spectacular!!

Hey Kyle,

I should have asked you about backpacking in NCNP...if you have time check out this thread and maybe you could include your 2 cents: http://glacierparkchat.com/phpBB3/viewt ... =30&t=4472

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Missy: North Cascades National Park is in the Northwest part of the state, on the border with Canada (kind of like Glacier's location in Montana).

When I went and looked it up, I discovered that we have been very near there. On one of our Seattle/San Juan Island Vacations we took the little road out of Bellingham that takes you over to Mt. Baker. Where you were is further east---right?
Loved that area!

Yes, Baker is further west from where I was (just west of the park by a couple miles). Here is a picture looking west/northwest to Baker, the Great White Watcher.

Thanks for the photo --- I'll show it to David and Stephanie. She was a little thing on that trip and Mt. Baker was one of the first times she saw snow. We made it up to the snow line and she made a Barbie Snow(man)Woman.
