Sperry Chalet Photos, 2020

Post by al_in_al »

I made it up to Sperry for the last two nights of the 2020 season. I'll write more of a trip report as I go though my photos, but I thought I'd share the ones I took of Sperry first.

The mountain goats seemed to be back to normal. One was licking the rocks on the dorm as I walked up the first time. I didn't actually see them around the dorm building much after the first afternoon.

I had Room #1 - upstairs on the front corner, which had a (shared) balcony. The room still had that "new car smell".

I was solo, but the room could hold up to 3 people in a twin and double.

Loved all the hooks.

And some food pics. First night: Prime rib.

Second night: Thanksgiving.

Hi "J"

Thanks for posting the pictures of the new/old chalet dorm.
It looks wonderful. I love the color of the new wood interior.
How did the new sound proofing work? Is the privacy any better?
The food looked as good as it was when I was up there with my sister.
I'd love to stay there again.

Thanks for all the amazing pictures. It looks like they did a really nice job with the interior rebuild. I'll bet you could have auctioned off the other sleeping accomodations in your room for a nice price! Beautiful time of year to be in GNP.

The interior walls were so bright and shiny - very nice looking.

Food of course was excellent. The bread and hotcakes were my favorite part.

The soundproofing might be improved some, but you could still hear pretty much everything. Sound echoes when you walk through the halls and down the steps. I could hear the people in the room below me when they talked. The room beside me was pretty quiet, but I could hear snoring and their alarm clock in the morning. The room across the hall had 2 toddlers! So I heard them cry and scream a few times (but overall, they seemed to do pretty well, or I was so tired I slept through it).

Compared to the original, the soundproofing was 10x better! The floor between up and downstairs was still just 2 inch planking so soundproofing between floors was normal. Walls between rooms had some insulation for fireproofing but they looked the same. Lighting at night was definitely better. The stairs were also much better and not as scary as they used to be. Other than the new smell you wouldn't have known the difference between new and old. Speaking of smell, the outhouse was a bit ripe due to it being the end of the season and all of the drums were full.

Thanks for the update! It looks awesome! They did an amazing job recreating the old look!
Except for the stairs, its almost hard to tell if the photos are of the new dorm or the old one!

I'm not as big a Glacier fan as most here, but the Chalets, at least one of them, either of them, are on my bucket list. I don't care about staying in one as much as just visiting. I'm a big National Parks fan, but some of the lodges are almost destination worthy on their own.
