Very nice report Paul.
Beautiful pictures of an area I long to see.
I love vista type pictures where the clouds are just "hanging" making shadows on the landscape. Good stuff.
Scary story about the electrolytes. :( Glad it worked OK for you. :D
Well done!

Thanks Pete. Yeah it's a great area of the park to visit, more secluded than most of the park. If you can get there, make it happen.

Paul,

Thanks for the pictures. I have not been on Dawson-Pitamakin in quite few years so seeing those pictures is great - a reminder of those fantastic views. And I have never been to Boulder Pass - those pictures are great too. It was a good time to be in the park although the the Reynold's Creek Fire certainly limited travel on the GTTS road.

Thanks Bill. I think it was probably 5 or 6 years since I did Dawson-Pitamakin so it was a nice refresher. Perfect weather that day too!

Lovin' the trip report, Paul! (Though now I'm feeling REALLY guilty for still not writing mine…)

I'm so glad we finally got to hike together this year. :D And I agree that Snow Moon was an absolutely perfect choice for a first-of-the-season Glacier hike. (Paul and I arrived in the park the same day.)

BTW, I think the reason we didn't take many pictures on the way up was that the streambed was hella steep! (Thanks again for your patience when I was more bovine- than goat-like (er, caprine?) on some of those steep parts.)

So, not to hijack your report, but here are a few pictures of Paul on that Snow Moon hike. 8)

Passing the head of Falling Leaf Lake with Snow Moon just ahead:

And, since I'm not sure I'm going to have time to do my own trip report, this (semi) boot shot is especially for Jen….What better way to celebrate the first Glacier hike of the season than with a piece of Kathryn's Triple Berry "Pie for Strength" pie?

I'M SO GLAD YOUR BACKPACK WENT SO WELL, PAUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :|
(And I love those layered sunrise shots from Frances…)

Mid-winter trip reports. Gotta love it. So yeah, I'll throw in my two cents and say that stream bed is steep and who's gonna stop in the middle of that and snap a few photos?

Paul, ya got another day or two up your sleeve?

Hi Joyce,

Thanks for hiking with me this year! And thanks for sharing your photos. As Tony the Tiger would say "They're Grrrrrrreat!!"

I agree that the streambed is probably not the best place for fooling around with a camera.

Well, I have some Reynold's Creek Fire smoke photos. Also, I have some video from the Dawson-Pitamakin hike.(But I need to process it first so it may take some time)

Enjoyed the photos and trip reports, Paul and Joybird!

The pie pic created one of those uncontrollable urges that nothing but the thing itself will satisfy.
Thanks for posting and lightening the midwinter (mid-nonwinter) blahs.

Thanks Selkie,

I believe the pie came from the new bakery in East Glacier.

Thank you so much for the TR Paul, and Joybird.

That area is where I am heading this year, except I didn't get HOL, we'll see if I can get it as a walk up? Never been to the Crown of the Continent, and am so looking forward to it, and these pics got me pumped up even more. Thanks again for the great pics and thoughts on elecrolytes, I wouldn't have thought about that. I drink a ton of water, but didn't think about taking elctro pills. On the list!

Thanks CnMe, I'm sure you'll have a great time in the North Fork.

I usually bring electrolyte tablets that I dissolve in one of my water bottles. This year I forgot them. Definitely worth bringing for those long hot hikes.
