Backcountry Walk in Permits 2020

Post by Jimmy »

In a typical season, its possible to get a decent 2-4 night walk in permit if you don't mind getting in line early in the morning. Considering many people will not be interested in going to Glacier without an advanced reservation permit, it could be a great year to get good walk in permits. I am unsure if the campsites not used for advanced reservations will be released for walk in permits but that could also increase the chances of getting a good itinerary.

Thoughts?

There has been some discussion of that here:

The bottom line is that it is hard to tell because conditions are so uncertain. You can make a pretty good argument for either a good or bad walk up year.

Nothing to be sorry for and you're welcome.

I'm leaning towards it being a bad/busy year for getting a walk-up permit based on the crowds I've seen and the reported gate closing times.
I'm guessing it's due to lots of pent up demand.
However, nothing to do but wait and see what happens when they begin issuing permits.

If they don't open up the Inside Road there aren't going to be many BC sites accessible when they do begin with permits.
