Re: first timer to GNP, early season recommendations

I agree that the first day would be tough. You could also stay at Cosley the first night. The lookout trail is near camp and a couple of miles closer than GH. You could set up camp and then do the lookout. Then the next day continue on to either Glens Head or Mokowanis Lake and do Margaret Lake in ...

Re: North Fork Paving and Oil Trains

If they pave the North Fork to Camas Road, that will be "the beginning of the end" for the North Fork as a
wild place.

I dunno, maybe 6 miles north (up river) from Polebridge off the North Fork rd.
Right across the river from the Akokala trailhead which is on the Inside road to Kintla Lake.

Re: first timer to GNP, early season recommendations

Well, this is what I've come up with. But I wanted to run it by the experts before applying for a trip permit :D It looks like our entire party will be there by early Wednesday morning, so this is a W-Sa itinerary. When I was putting it together I was looking for campgrounds that allowed fires. I m...

Re: Spring 2015 Around GNP

Great photos, Pete! Thanks for sharing. can't believe how calm the lake looks. The GNP facebook page is reporting that the Two Medicine entrance road is open to Running Eagle Falls. A new destination for you maybe sometime soon? Thanks :) It not only "looked" calm, it was calm, and for lo...

Re: Spring 2015 Around GNP

Those were amazing Pete! Makes me wish I was there now!  Kim Yeah, it's a privilege to be able to get out here as much as I do. Not only is the "scene" beautiful, but the silence, the peacefulness all make the whole "experience" something which cannot be conveyed ...

Thanks, I consider that a really nice compliment coming from you.!
I wish you could have been there to do justice to the scene.
The amazing thing was how long the wind stayed down.

Thanks

Re: Crows Are My Breakfast "Buddies" :)

A while back Jen posted a link about the story of the 9 year old Seattle girl who had received all these "gifts" from the crows she fed in her garden. http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-31604026 I had known about "crow gifts" from my reading of Prof. John Marzluff's works. Prof. Ma...

Re: Bear Spray Backpack

Dave Parker is the expert on bear spray here, but I personally believe this device is more of a "gimmick" than anything else. I'm not saying the fellow who developed this product is not serious or sincere. I just believe it's one of those ideas that looks good in theory, but that isn't re...

Re: Spring 2015 Around GNP

Thanks y'all :) I think I like the third picture the best. Yeah, I liked #3 too Paul. #5 was taken about same time, just a wider view. The wind had died to nothing. No sounds except for occasional car, and "voices from somewhere" carrying across the water. wow..it looks beautiful! Thanks B...
