Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

Thanks Paul, hopefully as the Ranger said ‘September is the new August’.

Another northern loop just popped up:

09-09-22 GLF
09-10-22 STO
09-11-22 FIF
09-12-22 GRN

Re: Recreation Access Display (RAD)

Did they stop updating this or is there a server issue similar to the trail status and backcountry site status pages (previously)? This was an incredibly helpful dashboard. Weather looks accurate, but fill times are all blank (checked yesterday as well), status doesn't match the new page (showing fu...

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

Persistence paid off- I was able to land an extended northern circle in the end half of September!

It looks like another partial (no FIF?) opener mid August

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

I’m sure you spotted it, but there are some suspicious parts. It looks like sites that should be in winter status are not, and there are a lot of over bookings.

Enjoy your trip!

Re: they just released some rooms at MGH & SWFT Current

Thanks for sharing! Looks like a lot of openings at reasonable prices. Rising Sun as well.

Wonder if they’re seeing canceling due to GttSR opening delays or if just catching up on staffing (housekeeping and/or maintenance).

A welcome positive development.

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

Happy to report Trail Status pages are back up along with Walk-in availability (first time all year)!

No Advanced Site Availability, but 2 steps forward is well received.

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

Thanks for asking - that motived me to do the same, with more pointed questions. I encourage others to do so as well. This seems like delay, defer and kick the can down the road to Rec.gov next year, which will 'resolve' the camping information, but not the trails. Just really sad considering it lik...

Re: He's alive

Thanks for sharing Jay - glad to hear. When I heard about what was going on in Ukraine, my thoughts immediately went to Pete and his plans. I do miss the pictures, stories and information he’d bring, as well as the perspective even if I didn’t always agree with it.

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

A week later and the only updates are that the links to advanced availability map and trail status have been scrubbed from the website.

Re: Memorial Day Backcountry Trip

Agree, don't overthink it. If it's open - great. Otherwise think about REF-REF or REF-REY-GUN (assuming the pass isn't open) or REF-REY-REF. Even ATL/MOR for a couple days would be good to explore both passes and Medicine Grizzly Lake. I have a local save of the status that I periodically update whe...

Re: Memorial Day Backcountry Trip

Blanka, That is a great route, especially if you can link it to Pitamakan and Dawson Pass, but way too early for that. Here is the Red Eagle to Triple Divide status: Projected initial clearing date: 7/13/2022 per 650Red Eagle Gorge Suspension Bridge: INSTALLED 6/1/2022 per 650Upper Red Eagle Suspens...

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

Scott you're probably working off the old like (with the 'home.nps' domain). Here are the links I have: Trail Status Link . With each area having their own webpage, starting with https://www.nps.gov/applications/glac/trail/trailstatus.cfm?t= and adding the abbreviation BR=Belly River, MG = Many Glac...

Fantastic on all fronts! 1 day turn is unprecedented, on a Saturday nonetheless. Now you can start with logistics.
