Re: Good lightweight tripod?

Now that's ingenious! I think I'll make up one of those to take in my camera bag. I went down to our local photo shop just to see what some of these tripods looked like. I ended up actually buying one there. It is made by Manfrotto and sounds like it may be similar to the one you were talking about ...

Re: Good lightweight tripod?

Thanks to all of you for your help! I'm going down to my local photo shop to see just what the Gitzos are like. A little more than I probably want to spend though. I did check that link at B&H for that Slik tripod and that looks like a possibility. Like you said NDjason, that one may not have al...

Good lightweight tripod?

I am looking for a lightweight tripod that I could take hiking that is strong enough to support an SLR camera. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Webcam....can this be right? Minus 83.2 degrees?

Glad that is not a true temperature! However, -19F with 30mph winds is pretty cold too. And with the day before being 43, you really have some wild weather swings there.

High supposed to be 64 here today.

Webcam....can this be right? Minus 83.2 degrees?

I just checked the webcams in Glacier and saw that the St. Mary webcam is saying that the temp is -83.2 !??? Could that be right. It also looks pretty terrible out there.

Re: Digital Cameras

Here's another site for good info about cameras before you buy. It tells a lot about the features of most popular cameras: http://www.steves-digicams.com/cameras_digpro.html Also, a local camera store (not a chain store) sometimes can be very helpful. They usually actually know what they are talking...

Re: Digital Cameras

I have the Nikon D80 and it is set up very much like Ear's Canon is. That is, there are 3 image sizes (L for large, M for medium and S for small). The image quality can be set for Raw, Fine, Normal or Basic. There are also settings for Raw + Fine, Raw + Normal and Raw + Basic. So this gives you a lo...

Montana Magazine articles

The January/February issue of Montana Magazine has a nice picture of Ear Mountain on page 77. It is part of an article about the Rocky Mountain Front. Also in this issue is a good article on page 32 about the winter keeper at Many Glacier Hotel. Most states do not have a nice magazine like this one....

Looks quite nice up at Apgar Lookout this morning. Cold though, it says 3.2 degrees.

Re: Apgar Village Lodge vs Village Inn at Apgar

We've stayed at Apgar Village Lodge 6 times and are really happy with it. The nice thing about this place is that you can rent individual cabins which are more quiet than the Village inn at Apgar which is a two story motel style place. Both places are right next to eachother so they are both convien...

Re: Digital Cameras

Calicotravelor, That enlargement from film? Was the original film 35mm or larger? That too makes a big difference along with the type of film used of course. Another difference in digital cameras in the physical size of the sensor. The standard 35mm single lens reflex camera used a film 35mm across...

Re: Digital Cameras

Hey, thanks Ear! You are a wealth of information about all this. You have explained a bunch of things that I just didn't understand before. You're right, the poster sized pic looks quite good from a distance of 5 feet or so (and actually it probably won't be seen much closer). However, if I get up r...

Re: Digital Cameras

As far as enlarging photos goes, I've enlarged up to 20" by 30" (poster size) with an online photo sharing site called DotPhoto. I think they must use some magical process called interpolation. Anyway the photo turned out very nice. When you get ready to order one of these posters they tel...

Re: What the heck do you people look like?

It was the middle of December so it was after all that. I'd have to say we were a little nervous about this part of the trip. Especially when the border guards took our passports when we went into Burma (Myanmar). Our trip was primarily to Thailand but we did have a half day side trip into Myanmar. ...
