Re: Bike & Walk Into Many Glacier 04-17-2015

Thanks Paul and Tina! http://youtu.be/a3ReG9piCbg It was a nice day but I was disappointed that I didn't see more animals. I saw virtually nothing except a few squirrels. And the park is not pretty this time of year. Snow is gone but no flowers yet. I like the looks of the new bridge. They still hav...

Re: tents w built in lights

I get paperbacks pretty much "free" at the used book store in Kalispell....but I see the utility of a Kindle so.... Alright, alright, y'all talked me into it. I ordered a Kindle last night. "Paper White" version. 8) pete  PS I bought 2 years worth of replacement protection...

Re: Summary of Good Eating Places

My wife and I love Two Sisters pie near Babb/St. Mary. Its our favorite place to eat on the east side of the park. This afternoon, during the course of a minor business transaction, I had the pleasure of talking with "Big John and Susan", the owners of Two Sisters Cafe in Babb. I told the...

Gold Mining Town Story

Garnet is a fun place to visit if you like this sort of thing. I've been several times. I'm glad to see it's going to be around a while longer. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/04/18/what-rush-volunteers-have-chance-to-live-in-montana-gold-mine-ghost-town/?intcmp=latestnews&intcmp=latestnews And i...

Bike & Walk Into Many Glacier 04-17-2015

I dunno what to call this day trip. I got up at 0500, left around 0600, arriving at the dam where the Many Glacier road is presently gated. Saw a black bear on US89 just north of mile marker 19. 21 seconds https://youtu.be/X8kLVHbKqyw Video here is crappy because I couldn't get my act together quick...

Re: tents w built in lights

There's nothing wrong with that tent light feature---if you like it, trust that it won't break on the 2nd trip out--and willing to pay the additional cost. I don't need general lighting since I camp alone. And over the last 50+ years, I've learned how to make do with various forms of head lamps and ...

...Also I don't get blinded every time TNTammy looks at me while her headlamp is on. :D Oh My! Tsk tsk Michael. That was Tammy's smile blinding you, not her headlamp . 8) pete  PS I'm not kidding as one can see even in this lousy photograph of mine.   http://i1374....

Re: 2014 Season Shoe Shots

I always like the shoe shots! Almost forgot about them until I saw these. Any more? Here's a couple from September 6th, 2014 on the summit of Piegan. This one is looking southerly and down at Piegan Glacier with Going-To-The-Sun mountain on the left. http://i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag426/Geezer...

Re: sun road opening

They won't be opening the Sun Road early. They'll use the time and good weather to fix the Sun Road on the East side. The quicker they get it done, the better. And I would expect the other roads to open pretty much in the same time frame as they have in the past. Among other reasons, I doubt they ha...

Re: tents w built in lights

Marketers are clever folks aren't they? Just another gadget that, if successful , will prove that some people will buy anything. 8) This light is similar to the "backpack bear spray" in that regard. Personally, I'd rather see the tent makers spend their money and research effort on things ...

Re: North Fork Paving and Oil Trains

I watch the oil trains every day from my den window as they pass within a 100 yards of my building. Mindful of what happened in that Canadian town when an oil train wrecked.... I don't like my chances very much if they wreck an oil train here in "down town" Whitefish...if I were home at th...

Flathead Spring Gobblers

I made this video on 3-24 while parked on Birch Grove just east of the Whitefish River bridge. The SW end of the airport runway is <1mile due east. The mix of farm land along side the brushy river bottom makes for prime wildlife habitat for many animals, including these turkeys. I see them all year ...
