Re: 2015 Permits

I am trying to be patient and don't want to bug the rangers as I know they are still processing applications (rejections). When is too early to check with them? In case there was an issue with my email or communications. I know they say to give them til the middle of May... Just asking. I was at th...

Re: 2015 Permits

But if it makes you feel better, have at it! 8) pete  When you live 1476 miles away, sometimes you just need something to grasp on to. Albeit, meaningless information. Well, you need to move closer :) Wait till you see what your Illinois state taxes are going to do, and soon. Just be g...

Re: 2015 Permits

IMO, from what I know about how the system works...it is a complete waste of time to keep looking at that availability chart and trying to correlate it with, well, anything . The regular old rangers(some quite young) don't necessarily update the availability board, the INSTANT they process a BC itin...

Re: Anyone know about Tea Kettle Campground in Columbia Fall

You could camp here at Whitefish Lake State park. http://stateparks.mt.gov/whitefish-lake/ It's actually not too bad. I camped there a long time ago testing my tarp tent Squall I Bring your mosquito stuff. The airport is only 20-25 minutes https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Glacier+Park+International+A...

Re: Anyone know about Tea Kettle Campground in Columbia Fall

Here's this: http://www.hikercentral.com/campgrounds/117121.html If it's where I think it is, I don't think I would want to camp there were I you. Teakettle campground is adjacent to the public boat ramp next to the US 2 bridge over the Flathead River. https://www.google.com/maps/@48.365525,-114.169...

Re: 2015 Permits

Something else came to mind. Maybe due to the success of this forum and others like it(Trip Adviser), demand is up for the more popular itineraries in GNP And so... The "demand" from the " several thousand " prospective backpackers is not evenly distributed across all the potenti...

Re: 2015 Permits

With all due respect to my friends here, if I still have any friends left on the chat... The fact that a mere handful of you didn't get what you asked for, or didn't get a permit at all does not make a case for "software system problems" or any other kind of problem. I was in the BC office...

Re: Sun Road Management Plan

In defense of my idea... I knocked out that gate idea above a bit hastily before work this morning. This idea would work far better as part of a much larger plan that would integrate this idea other changes. I'm not optimistic that the park's "Master Plan" is in the 21st century just yet w...

Re: Sun Road Management Plan

I almost always go to the park before the gate is manned. However, I waited 12 minutes to get through the West Glacier gate the morning of May 2nd when I did Avalanche. There were only five cars in front of me. That's nuts. The lines of cars waiting to get in recently spawned this idea. Why not make...

Yellowstone Park Black Bears

This is why I stay away from Yellowstone during the tourist season.
Way too many people who don't have a clue.

Re: Apgar Lookout May 9th 2015

Those flowers are wild violets. We have several different types blooming in southern Minnesota now. I don't know which type would be found on the Apgar Lookout Trail. There was fresh snow in the webcams on the east side of the park on Friday. Is the little bit of snow in your sixth picture the rema...

Re: Apgar Lookout May 9th 2015

Hey Ralph : Yeah it was nice. Thanks for the words on the photos. I know you know they're just "snaps". 8) Apgar Lookout isn't the most exciting hike in GNP but it has nice views if the weather's good. Nobody but me there for over an hour. I always like that. Good exercise too! Doesn't sou...

Apgar Lookout May 9th 2015

The weather guessers nailed the forecast for today. Twas too nice of a day to stay home. I had to do some work in Kalispell so I had to do a shorter hike today. Apgar Lookout has nice views on a good day so that was it. Got started late for me at about 0750. I was surprised I was first to park :shoc...

Pete - I think this white beauty didn't get the message to stay away from west of town! Hehehe...Just like there aren't any grizzly bears out your way either. 8) Seriously though, you live in an area blessed with a lot of wildlife. Ask Dave Parker :) I'm sure you'll see lions and bears soon ...
