Re: Barefoot hiker completes CD trail

The first time I hiked Siyeh, a group of young women passed us and two of them were barefoot. They didn't seem to be having any trouble!

Re: Scalplock Lookout Trail

The worker in the lookout was named Henry. It finally came to me! When we hiked there was not a clear sign at one of the junctions. There was a sign for a horse trail only. We went the wrong way and had to backtrack, thus the confusion on the return. When a ranger asked after we had finished how we ...

Re: Scalplock Lookout Trail

We hiked this a few years ago and it was manned at that time. I believe his name was George but can't remember for sure. I do know he had been the lookout for twelve years and was originally from NY. Did it one year and had been back every year since. We did have trouble on the return finding the ri...

Re: Siyeh pass

I would go down to Sunrift. It is an extra thousand feet elevation loss than the other side, but the scenery is great.

Re: Many Glacier June 16-26 2018---RAIN and WIND!

Pete, I saw something just like your weather rolling in and the clouds one year on the Sun Rd near Bird Woman Falls overlook. It was just rolling in over Logan Pass and was amazing. It almost looked like a waterfall, it was moving so fast. Unfortunately my picture isn't as good as yours!

Pete, from the look of those pictures, you don't need to worry about using your "better" camera. Those are beautiful, and thanks for always sharing your pictures and experiences.

Re: New May visitation record

Lyman,
I think the congestion at Bowman could be related to other areas of the park not being open yet, BUT, I do know that last year the road to Bowman was closed due to overcrowded parking on two occasions. As was the road to Many. At one point at Many, you had to show hotel reservations to get in.

Re: New May visitation record

Another chatter mentioned that Glacier Guides was posting weekly updates. This is from June 8 " Last week we reported that there were many, many trees down on trails in this area, and it doesn't look like that has changed. So, recreate on the North Fork's gorgeous lakes, instead. However, if yo...

Re: Grand Canyon

Just returned from Grand Canyon. We go almost every year and try to spend three nights on each rim. We usually go in May but have also been in October. The October trip was really rainy last time. Weather at the north rim was 70 during the day and 30 at night. A little warmer on the south rim, but v...
