Re: Bears aren't the only big predators in the USA

Pete, When Cypress Gardens was still open we went on my dad's boat over to the ski shows. It was one lake over thru the canal. We anchored out in the lake and watched the show. Haven't been since it turned into Lego Land!

Pete, enjoyed this post. My parents winter home is on Lake Winterset so I know exactly where your picture was taken.

Caretakers at Many Glacier

There is a fairly good article in the spring edition of the National Parks Conservation Association magazine about the winter caretakers at Many.

Re: National Parks IMAX film.

Saw it today. A little disappointed that some of the parks didn't get a little more exposure, but overall pretty enjoyable. Great scenery and beautiful story about Pictured Rocks.

Hey Pete, hate to post this here, but I have tried to send a couple of PM's and can't find a trace of them. Wondered if they went thru?

Happy Birthday and it was good to see a post from you. Hadn't seen one lately and was beginning to worry. Glad you got out for your birthday!

Re: Spring, Summer, and Now Fall 2015 Around GNP

Great pictures and trip reports Pete. Really enjoy them. And yes I did know that an eardrum could rupture without warning. Had it happen to me when I was about twenty (can that really be forty years ago!!??) Same thing, woke up with intense pain, like an ice pick being rammed into my ear and then re...

Re: Raising a Girl with Grit: a step-by-step guide

Pete, Hope I didn't add to the confusion. When I stated we followed the map marked, could have gone this way, I thought that was the trail we followed. I just thought on the map it looked closer to the parking area than it really was. The trail we used was the one you also used. It followed the cree...

Re: Thoma Lookout ...

Just saw the map posted by Matt. Where he states, "could have went this way", that is the trail.

Re: Thoma Lookout ...

Yes Pete, that sounds like the spot. Just keep an eye out for the trail. Was a rock cairn there, but it was small and with the weeds we went right by. I remember at some point on the trail there was a fork and we headed to the lookout. It was posted as to the trail names, so you should have no troub...

Re: Thoma Lookout ...

Ok Pete, I found my scratched notes from a couple of years ago. I clocked trailhead 18 as this. Drive 4 miles past the marking for TH 15. At this point turn onto 114A and travel 1 1/2 miles to the berm that stops vehicle travel. As I stated before, I think you hike ten or fifteen minutes from this a...

Re: Thoma Lookout ...

And Pete, your estimate of the trail being about a mile up the old road is about right. I can't really remember, but we hiked a short ways, ten to fifteen minutes and the trail goes off to the right.

Re: Thoma Lookout ...

Jen, read your trip report, sorry about your knee and good luck with surgery. Hope you will be hiking next year. Pete, we did the trail off 114A, You park and hike over a berm to stop farther travel on the road. Walk over the berm and a short way up the road, the trail to Thoma goes off to the right...
