Re: Ole Creek - new trail

A quick search on "Miche Wabun" pulls up some information. Not surprisingly for those of us who have been here for awhile, Ear Mountain had something to say about that area more than a decade ago. http://www.glacier.nationalparkschat.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3787&p=46533&hilit=...

Re: Ole Creek - new trail

If I recall correctly, Ruhle's last guidebook indicates that the newest trail in the Park (which he takes some credit for) is the trail to Miche Wabun Lake which I believe comes off the Belly River Trail at some point. It is listed in the trail status reports but never seems to get much attention o...

Ole Creek - new trail

An interesting item from September 1971 in the Yesterdays Column in the Hungry Horse News. I was in the Park at the time helping to close down Lake McDonald Lodge but as it was late in the season, my invitation to go on this hike must have gotten misplaced. 50 years ago Sept. 17, 1971 Editor Mel Rud...

Her body has now been recovered and we have confirmation that the accident took place at the Grinnell Glacier Overlook:

Re: Virginia hiker not heard from in nearly a week found dead in Glacier National Park

I saw some speculation in the media yesterday that indicated that it could have happened off the Highline Trail or around the Dragon's Tail. Those are of course two very separate places.

Re: Mountain ID question

Ralph,
Thanks very much for your post. It is always interesting to look at these mountains from different angles (and usually it causes me to guess wrong!)

I should also add that, as the only person I have personally met who has climbed Mount Saint Nicholas, I appreciate your insight!

Surprised this hasn't caught on

An item from the yesterday's column of the Hungry Horse News. 40 years ago July 9, 1981 Dave Reynolds used an umbrella he had while hiking the Loop Trail to ward off a grizzly bear. Reynolds popped open the umbrella at the approaching bear and then crouched behind it. The bear sniffed the umbrella a...
