Re: Six days on the east side.

I really like that walk along Elizabeth Lake from the Foot to the Head. I’ve stayed at ELH in the site closest to the pit toilet. It was fine with 2 small tents. But I didn’t realize there was access to the lake from the campground! Tibber and I walked a good quarter mile back toward ELF to sit on a...

Re: KOA owes 1.7 million

Wow. Not sure how the KOA could think not paying all these years would never catch up with them.

A nearby karaoke night woke me up in the middle of the night at St Mary Campground.

Re: 2024 Ticketed Entry

The reply I got to that was, "What do you DO in the park for that long?" That’s funny! This past summer, I was using a Granite Park Chalet reservation as my entry ticket at the check point on the east side. The gal looked at my reservation then asked her coworker, “Is the Granite Pa...

Off to a great start, Jay! I’m enjoying your photos, and look forward to more of both the photos and your story. I know how most of it goes but you sure have a great way of telling it.

Re: I left my hiking boots in the trunk of the Uber.

A few things to add from my end: I’ll never forget the look on Jen’s face when she told me she left her boots in the Uber, just as we were getting ready to walk out the door for our 3.5 hour drive to the park. I also remember being very concerned for her feet because the Altra Lone Peaks I lent her ...

2024 Backcountry Permits: BIG Changes!

I haven’t had a chance to fully read and digest this, but permits are going back to a lottery application in 2024, and a standard group is now 1-8 campers. Other notable changes at first glance: - Successful lottery applicants are limited to a single reservation during the lottery period but may cre...

Re: GNP 2023 - TSE to TNE (the long way)

Nice report so far! We had a Walton to Two Med permit in 2022, but the Cobalt Lake trail was closed for bears so we went with Plan B. It’s back on the wishlist for 2024, so I’m very interested in hearing more about the general area. I must be a ranger magnet because I bump in to them quite often. Tw...

Re: Lake McDonald Creek Home-Hungry horse news

And how did construction get this far without a contractor questioning the safety, flooding and not to mention, lack of permit issue?

Re: I left my hiking boots in the trunk of the Uber.

This wasn’t a good trip as far as boots are concerned. I was thinking of calling my summer trip report “A Series of Unfortunate Events.” Jen’s boot debacle being the start of it.

Re: Bear attacks this past weekend

It totally makes sense, Paul, and that’s why dogs are supposed to be leashed at all times in the backcountry. Such a sad story, and it has the hiking and backpacking community pretty shook up around here. They were very experienced folks. More details are emerging. https://globalnews.ca/news/1000507...

Bear attacks this past weekend

Two bear attacks made the news this past weekend. A 73-year-old woman was hospitalized with injuries she sustained in an Oct. 1 bear attack which took place on a section of the Flathead National Forest located near the U.S.-Canada border north of Polebridge: https://flatheadbeacon.com/2023/10/02/wom...
