Ok, B&W or color? (I'm mainly a B&W shooter.) Avalanche Gorge is great around Sunset. (West side) I love the calm, evening glow. I would think you could find something nice along Lake McDonald. Goose Island is an obvious evening shot (on the east side). The sky is quite nice in the evening, ...

Here's my two cents on the Black Hills. I believe the Sylvan Lake campground is the best one out there, and the Sylvan Lake area is the crown jewel of the area for hiking. My favorite hike is the Sunday Gulch Trail, then Harney's Peak. Definitely check out Sunday Gulch. The Badlands are nice at Sunr...

Was the bridge already in (near Iceberg)? One year I jumped across the stream (rock to rock), but on the way back, that route was uphill. I couldn't jump as far. So I waded through the stream (with $3K in camera gear on my back), and that stream was rippin'. There was no room for error. It's funny, ...

Here's part of email from a friend. I don't think he will mind me passing it along. The first sentence is referring to snow levels in early July. (I've never been up there, but he knows the part pretty well.) Jay Triple Divide Pass can be pretty tricky early on as well but should be open. The Red Ea...

Yeah, I'll be out there for the first two weeks of July and I'm hoping to hike some new territory: -Either start at Belly River and exit at Goat Haunt or if that's not a go, start at Many Glacier and exit Goat Haunt. Both ways look to have some snow fields. (I think it's possible to scramble around ...

I can't make it, but....

-Do you get up there out of Swiftcurrent or via Iceberg Lake?
-If you hike up out of Iceberg Lake, do you head up the scree field, or do you head off into the shrubs? The scree field got too steep for me (and my big pack) on my last attempt to get up there.
