Re: Wolves chasing moose and calf in Belly River area,

I read a book, several years ago, by a researcher studying the wolves in the Belly River area and other northern parts of GNP. Have forgotten the name of the researcher but was impressed to learn that the wolf population extended into Canada, probably along the river's watershed. It looks as though ...

Outside article on GNP, difficulties for thru-hikers

article The title has the author's take (and disposition): "Continental Divide Trail: What the Park Service Gets Wrong at the Start of the CDT." A lot of verbiage on difficult of getting permits. (That is not unique to CDT through-hikers.) Some verbiage on NPS should Do Something about th...

Re: Sperry Chalet, Granite Park, 2023

On casual viewing of availability page, Granite Park Chalet has had some spots open up (probably briefly) fairly often.
I haven't detected any movement at Sperry.*

*Hah! One just popped up, for September 10. So those res are beginning to move.

Re: Glacier Park Proposes Swiftcurrent Closure During Multi-year Improvement Project

Thanks, Ear Mountain . Good to know this well in advance. The construction will take out of service some of Glacier's limited lodging and camping options. I imagine trail access through Swiftcurrent Valley might also be limited during the time frame stipulated, but possibly not, if a pedestrian thor...

Many Glacier hard-sided through ??, 2023

I picked this up from another site and confirmed on rec.gov: Many Glacier Campground closed to tent and any soft-siding camping equipment effective immediately. This is due to a bear incident in the campground. NO sleeping in tents or hammocks. RVs, Motorhomes, Trailers, Hard-sided Pop-ups are allow...

Re: Nearly all of Waterton closed due to flooding

Thanks, teapot.
I'm not headed there myself (or not soon), but this should help folks planning an itinerary.
The fires in B.C. seem to be early and bad this year.
We get many gray, leaden afternoons (from the ash stream) to mornings that started out bluebird.

Re: No Pete and No New Members?

Sorry, I didn't realize they were also listed as administrators. Admin usually works behind the scenes to keep the site running smoothly, popping up infrequently with announcement of a system change, for example. As far as I know, Dave Parker was the actual "SysAdmin" (though he may have o...

Re: No Pete and No New Members?

Whereas it is regrettable that the only active moderator* appears to be Ear Mountain, the others were stealing away (or disengaging) before Dave Parker's death. I agree they should be no longer be listed as moderators. As the board has lost functionality, that may not be possible. The monies donated...

Re: Update on sale of the Izaak Walton

Thanks for this. I was fortunate to stay at Izaac Walton Inn for a 3-day Feb weekend of XC skiing several years ago. When winter existed. I rather liked the slightly funky nature of some of the facilities, mixed in with historical moments. The basement bar had the right ambience, enlivened by some s...

Re: Northern Traverse 3

Paul,
Thanks for a well-illustrated account. With the exception of smoke from wildfires, it looks as though you had good weather the entire trip.
Those lakes and waterfalls are beautiful. Entices one to sit and enjoy, as people did.

Re: Ranger Lyle Ruterbories passes

Thanks for this news.
I met him one summer. He was charming, exceedingly gracious, showed me the prized postcard and photo collection he kept in his truck, then excused himself to move more wheelbarrows of something. He left a legacy, for those who care to inform themselves.
