rec.gov - New Beta Campground Notification Feature

While poking around on rec.gov tonight I found that you can now ask to be notified when campground spots open up. it is a beta feature that only works for front country campsites that have already been released and taken. It could be useful for snagging spots from reservation cancellations. I was ab...

Well, I was unsuccessful in the North Cascades lottery.
Same here. I guess the new style is to try several things and see what comes up. I’m 2 of 4 so far this spring.

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

Perhaps those of us advocating for a lottery shot ourselves in the foot. This fairer easier system may have encouraged more people to take a shot. I entered the North Cascades lottery this year for the first time because it was right there on the web page while I was entering the Glacier lottery. An...

Re: 2024 Lottery Results

April 15 for me. Probably not a lot left by then but we will see. Maybe I’ll do better in the North Cascades.

An appropriate spelling error.

There is quite a variety of openings at Granite Park this morning if you are quick enough.

Re: Heat, Smoke and Finally Relief

Love the krummholz.

But it seems like every year Grinnell Glacier is a little smaller, Lower Two Medicine Lake is lower, less water is going under Running Eagle Falls and the smoke is thicker. :( Lately, I’ve been doing more trips earlier in the year when those things are less obvious.

 No. I was afraid I would miss the hairpin turn at the bottom and end up wrapped around a tree.

Re: Jan 2024 Winter sledding trip to Two Medicine

With a few exceptions, my winter gear is similar to summer gear but heavier and bulkier. The Mountain Hardware tent has 4 poles, no netting, a single door at one end and heavier fabric. It weighs 7 or 8 lbs. I have backpacked with it but my normal backpacking tent is half that. The sleeping bag has ...

Jan 2024 Winter sledding trip to Two Medicine

Over the years I’ve done several winter camping trips in Glacier. In mid January I pulled a sled into Two Medicine for two nights. I had reservations for a week in Yellowstone and decided that if the weather cooperated I would add a couple of nights in Glacier either before or after. Unfortunately t...

Re: Heat, Smoke and Finally Relief

That Lake McDonald campsite doesn't look like the most desireable I've seen in Glacier especially under a hot sun. The beach would be nice though.

Re: TR: Summer in Grand Teton National Park, 2023

I enjoyed the marmot pix but my experience around them is mixed. Most of the time they pose for pictures and look cute. But on one occasion a few years ago a really large marmot tried to eat my leather boot while I was wearing it. Another time I left a pole unattended for too long on Pitamakin Pass ...

Re: Lost post content poll

Of course everything is working fine now (Safari). I use Firefox most of the time on the laptop although I have had the same message on Safari. And I use Safari on the mobile. I do see the reCaptcha icon but not quite sure if it is always there. When I do get the message I can neither post nor send ...

"The solution you provided was incorrect"

This happens to me quite a bit as well. But I can't reproduce a list of steps that reliably invokes it. I do keep my browser locked down pretty tightly so I've just assumed that was probably the cause.
