If you are a pretty strong hiker, and it sounds like you are if you are planning to do Siyeh Loop...Id say 4.5 to 5 hours...though I can do it in 3.5 hours solo, no problem...I can move along when hiking solo...but often go slower with family or other chatters..
Catherine, It is your vacation, just wanted to throw an option out there for you... Certainly, it wouldn't be a problem to pick you up at St. Mary as it is only 30 minutes from MG area and the trailhead for Grinnell Glacier...get an early start (sounds like you are up for that based on Mondays early...
Catherine, Another option, I am already planning on doing Firebrand Pass on 9/6 (Wednesday) as that is my moving day from MG Campground to Two Med Campground; you could join me on that... I had also planned on doing Lee Ridge/Gable Pass on 9/5 and Grinnell Glacier on 9/12...but I could swap those 2 ...
It is 4.5 miles to Piegan Pass from Siyeh Bend, so a 9 mile out and back (with 1,700 feet of gain/loss); the first 2.5 miles (and last 2.5 miles) are the same as the Siyeh Loop Trail.
I'd do Highline to Loop on Sunday as the shuttle is still running (9/4 is the last official day of the shuttle which is why I put Siyeh Loop on that day)... I'd do Avalanche Lake and then head to Polebridge/Bowman Lake to check out that area of the Park on Tuesday... Then spend the day at Many Glaci...
Pete, You are welcome on any of my hikes, of course. I didn't even think about the fact that with two cars, no need to depend on the shuttle (which is nice because it is unlikely, but possible, that the first shuttle will be full when it gets to Sunrift Gorge)... I'd still recommend meeting at 7am a...
Regarding Many Glacier hikes... I have done them all many times; I generally stay at Many Glacier for about 70% of my vacation and will be based there 11 of my 16 nights this year... A reasonable argument could be made that any of the following is the best Many Glacier hike... Grinnell Glacier Ptarm...
I wonder if they will close Sprague Creek Campground or Avalanche Campground... I saw that St. Mary Campground is only open for hard-sided vehicles... Camping situation could get tight for early September... Thankfully, the camping occupancy across the park has decreased significantly the last few w...
Catherine, I find ranger led hikes to be very slow (Highline is a great trail though); guessing that Labor day weekend there will be plenty of people at Logan Pass... I will be catching the first shuttle from Sunrift Gorge to Siyeh Bend on 9/4...it leaves St. Mary at 7am; and should pickup at Sunrif...
I did Firebrand once and am planning on doing it again on 9/6... Really nice hike, especially the last few miles... But Siyeh Pass Loop is an amazing hike, I'm doing it again for the fourth time on 9/4... If the shuttle is running this would be my choice...park at Sunrift Gorge, shuttle to Siyeh Ben...
Loving the report as I count down the days (currently down to eight) until my 16 night stay... I love driving across the GTTS road after arriving at the airport and then arriving at my favorite place, Many Glacier... I spend the first several nights and last several nights there every year...with 5 ...
