Re: Grand Canyon North Rim

Thank you, all. This information is really helpful. I'm looking forward to having such easy access to these trails from the campground. I'll be getting plenty of driving in Montana next month. 8) I was looking at Wupatki last month as a possible stop. Pair it up with Sunset Crater if we have enough ...

Grand Canyon North Rim

Hello all, I debated resurrecting an older, general Grand Canyon thread but elected to start this one specific to the North Rim. My wife and I are headed to the Grand Canyon in a couple of weeks. I know late June may not be ideal in terms of temps, but it fits into the schedule and she's already goi...

Re: 2019 "Snaps" Around Gracier National Park...plus

This is where I turned around. 4.15 miles and 3600 feet up from the parking lot at 6800ft. You can see the lookout at the upper right. The weather looked bad up the valley and the wind was cold. Pete, I really like the contrast in these photos. The dark sky and the lookout in the distance make for ...

Great photos and video! I think I would have roughly the same reaction as the first two words in the bear video. You really get a sense of the bear's size as it is lumbering up the mountain. What a way to spend a weekend.

Looking forward to the full report and photos/video. Just checked the webcams. Still looks a little hazy on the west side, but the east side looks quite pleasant.

Re: US89 Construction Ongoing Between Browning and St Mary

Thanks for this info. We will be making a round trip between East Glacier and Chief Mountain in July so I will have to keep this in mind. I remember last August getting delayed a bit on US-89 north of 49 and it pretty much being a washboard road for a mile or two, but nothing major. Let us know if t...

This flatlander has a couple of 10 lb bags of rice in the pack, and has gotten used to getting funny looks around the neighborhood!

Re: 2019 Backcountry Permits

Welcome to the chat Jim :) ... pete  Pete, thank you for the welcome and the advice. I was studying the map and considering the two different routes as a way to vary the hike in and out. Of course that will depend on the river level. I'm looking forward to it. This will be the earliest in the...

Re: 2019 Backcountry Permits

First time poster, long time message board lurker. I received my email from the backcountry office this morning: in at CME, night one GAB, night two ELH, out CME. This will be a two nighter in the middle of a five day trip to the park following July 4th. This will be my fourth trip to Glacier and my...
