Re: Camping Supplies in West Glacier?

Just called Glacier Outdoor Center, and they do sell MSR fuel canisters. Thanks!

Camping Supplies in West Glacier?

I need to pick up some bear spray and MSR fuel canisters. Are there any stores in West Glacier or do we need to head down the road a bit?

Thanks!

Re: Glacier Crowds

I am assuming that you do not have a vehicle. If you had your own vehicle, I would suggest that you drive to Avalanche early, park your vehicle in a parking spot there, and catch the first Avalanche to Logan shuttle (since the shuttle from Apgar will only go to Avalanche and you have to change to a...

Re: Glacier Crowds

So if a shuttle is a critical part of your day hiking plans or backpacking trip, keep these big crowds and long waits for shuttle service in mind. The shuttle system is cleared overwhelmed at times.: Going to be there next week, and the shuttle system is a critical part of getting to the Loop from ...

Re: Chances of This Itinerary?

I got my first choice itinerary! The dates are the end of the range that I wanted, but who cares...so excited. For those who have not received any response, you may want to email the backcountry office, as they stated that they had already sent my email - it was not in my spam folder, and I had not ...

Re: Has anyone received notice of getting a permit?

Mine was processed at 10:04 AM, and still nothing. My itinerary is a popular route (modified Northern Traverse w/ Fifty Mountain built in), but I left a 2 week window.

I know two people that submitted a few minutes after me for trips and received rejection notices.

Re: Chances of This Itinerary?

If you can't get GNP permits, you're definitely not getting Teton's better itineraries (their system is all online, and August is booked solid for most routes). Grand Canyon is going to be wayyyyy to hot in August to do anything but river trips. None of the SW parks are good for summer backpacking d...

Re: Chances of This Itinerary?

A friend who was also trying for another GNP trip just received his rejection (though, he is leading a group of 6-8  ).

FIngers permanently crossed. Otherwise, we're headed to the Wind River Range, so win-win.

Re: Chances of This Itinerary?

No response yet...no denial email, but no other email either.

My hopes of getting a GNP itinerary this year are not high.

Re: HELP! URGENT! March 15th 8:00am Online process

Ugh. I've got three separate backpacking trips that are in various stages of the permitting process...this waiting is going to kill me. I struck out on a few trips last year (including GNP due to my procrastination), but ended up making do with an epic Canyonlands trip. "It will all work out&qu...

Re: HELP! URGENT! March 15th 8:00am Online process

I was in Culebra, Puerto Rico with some very janky internet connection but still managed to get my permit in at 10:04:39. I left a 20-day window to get my desired itinerary and allowed for alternate campsites, so hopefully, they'll squeeze our group in somehow. The GNP site says we should receive no...

Re: Thoughts on this Itinerary?

Might be good for a moderator to combine the two topics (see backcountry permits). Sorry for the duplicate. I'm new here and wasn't sure where to put my inquiry. I'll look into the alternate routes, though due to family commitments, the time is somewhat limited. Already convinced my wife to let me ...

Thoughts on this Itinerary?

I posted this in the permit section, but thought it would be good to get some more general feedback on this planned itinerary. We are a group of four and are wanting to do the following hike sometime in August. We are going to leave our window of time as flexible (2-3 week window) as possible in ord...

Chances of This Itinerary?

We are a group of four and are wanting to do the following hike sometime in August. We are going to leave our window of time as flexible (2-3 week window) as possible in order to get our desired route, but I'm worried that we'll strike out altogether. Day 1: Packers Roost TH to Fifty Mountain Day 2:...
