Re: July visitation surpasses 1,000,000 for the 1st time....

Last weekend I used the east side shuttle from St Mary to Logan Pass with a few other chatters and we must have lucked out with our timing because the wait times really weren't that bad. We arrived at St Mary around 10:00-10:30 and waited maybe a half hour for the shuttle to take us to Logan Pass. ...

Glacier 2017-- Day 1- Pollock Mountain -- July 30

Trip report time! I've been wanting to get my wife in to backpacking and last year we were trying to decide where to go. Decided on Glacier since I was reasonably familiar with it and I really wanted another chance to try and see some things since everything was pretty clouded over the entire time I...

Re: July visitation surpasses 1,000,000 for the 1st time....

I don't have anything really to compare it too, but at least last week for us, once you were more than .25 miles in to the trail, it still felt like you mostly had the place to your self. We didn't do the super popular trails which had to have helped (no idea how bad the Highline would have been). B...

Rising Sun- Two Dog Flats - Breakfast

Ate there for breakfast since they opened at 6:30. Reasonable prices and fairly quick. Easily one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. I'm normally on the fence with breakfast potatoes as it's hard to get them cooked right (too soggy, etc). But wow, these were PERFECT. Eggs, toast, etc all were gre...

Gunsight Pass Status

Hey folks-- been watching the Gunsight pass status for the past month as we're supposed to go up and over next week. Status still says- "There is one snow field that has a dangerous run out. This will be the first one you encounter as you climb up from Gunsight Lake. The higher snow fields can ...

Re: Region 1 enters Stage II fire restrictions

Is this early in the season for these or is this typical? I seem to remember seeing them the past few years, but thought it was usually more in the August time frame.

Re: Back Country Sites Closed

I believe most of the higher back country sites go through that state as the snow melts off and they transition from winter conditions. I've seen that in the past with a number of them and my thought was that it generally to allow things to dry out, etc.

Re: $53M to Go to U.S. National Park Maintenance, Infrastruc

Also, looks like most of it is from outside organizations-- which I think would have been giving that money regardless? Not exactly sure how that works. Any money is good though-- hopefully the upside of the crazy visitor numbers this summer is folks start to realize how important these parks are.

Re: Glacier shatters June attendance record

With the attendance being quite high-- has anyone had much experience with the shuttles at all and if they're filling to capacity?

Working out some transfers on shuttles to do Gunsight and wondering if I need to take in to account not being able to get on shuttles with so many people.

I'm still completely in love with Google Photos. No real ads, I can deep link, etc. Might be worth taking a look.

Re: 2017 "Snaps" Around Glacier plus...

On a backpacking trip to Olympic national park, my brother brought one of those pads and I mocked him mercilessly the first few hours. Then it came time to take a break for lunch. And given the entire area is a rain forest, everything was wet. And stayed that way the next three days. He was sitting ...

Re: 2017 "Snaps" Around Glacier plus...

Thanks for the info! Been watching your photos and the Flattop snowtel all spring. I've went from "there will be too much snow to do anything up on the mountains in the beginning of August" to "will there even be any snow left?". Thanks so much for posting them-- they're great to...
