Re: Night of the Grizzlies Video Clip

This clip is from 1957 in Yellowstone. The 16mm film my dad shot this with got bad storage treatment. :( I was 9 years old and my sister was 6 years old. The first minute or so was at Mt Rushmore. I had a dark striped T-shirt on. I have a red t-shirt with white stripes. My sister has a red outfit. W...

Re: Ticketed Entry Issue

Scott: I asked that question at the BC Office this afternoon. You will need a "valid ticket" to enter the West Gate or St Mary Gate or Camas Rd entrances after 0600. So you will need to purchase a ticket before arriving at the gate. Tickets cannot be purchased at the gate. You'll be turned away and...

Re: Ticketed Entry Issue

Does anyone have information on how one accesses the Backcountry Office at Apgar - in an attempt to get a walkup backcountry permit - without an Entry Ticket? Is that possible? While it is certainly an advantage to get at the backcountry office early enough to avoid being challanged at the west gat...

Re: Ticketed Entry Issue

I drove out to the park around noon yesterday. Businesses in West Glacier are beginning to "wake up". Most were open. Apgar had a few people, but nothing I'd call a "crowd". I stopped in at the Backcountry Office and asked about "overnight parking" on the GTTS road. If it matters, the Ranger I spok...

Re: 2021 Backcountry Permit Applications: Date for submittal now March 17

FWIW....The car rental business working out of KGPI has some problems, and apparently KGPI isn't alone. Among the challenges that car rental companies face at the moment is "limited supply". Or often they might have the wrong "mix" of models available. In some cases, they sold off SUVs__POPular wit...

Re: 2021 Backcountry Permit Applications: Date for submittal now March 17

Neither permit that I received was close to what I requested, and they are both one night permits for the exact same date! I got one night at REH, and on the second permit I got the SAME night at Lake Isabel. That's very weird Tina. How could they make that mistake? Dear Backcountry Permit Applican...

Re: 2021 Backcountry Permit Applications: Date for submittal now March 17

Glad you got a permit, Pete. Maybe you can try and climb Mount James on day 2, it's definitely doable from Atlantic Creek. Looks like I'm not going to get a permit this year. My 4th choice probably still has an outside chance but I'm not really too excited about it. It's a trip from Two Medicine to...

Re: 2021 Backcountry Permit Applications: Date for submittal now March 17

Congrats Pete! I'll be in that same spot a week after you. Thanks Sean. ATL is a decent campground. No scenery but it does have a creek that runs through it for water. Bummer is that you can't have fires there now. But it'll serve both our purposes. 🀞for good weather! Fabulous news, Pete! Are you p...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Nice to see there is another option for camping and nice little cabins in that area. I'm going to send this info off to a friend who is looking for just that sort of thing. You eat well when you camp! I didn't think to ask about the price of cabins. They're new and don't appear on the website. I th...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Thanks Michelle, Jay and Craig! :) It was nice to get out and go somewhere other than Lake McDonald. Here's a little "lame video" from Friday at Leaning Tree Camp Ground. They were not really open for the season yet but let me stay anyway. Leaning Tree is a very small CG> However, they do have a sma...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

Great photos, Pete! So nice to see the east side. Did you camp over there? The improvements to US89 look great and like you said, much safer. Were there many people out? Yes, I camped Friday night at a tiny little campground, The Leaning Tree, on Duck Road just off US 89. Pics later and yeah it was...

Re: 2020 "Snaps" Around Glacier National Park

This was Friday evening around 8:10PM at the Rising Sun boat dock. No wind and so nice reflection of Red Eagle Mt. Just a tiny highlight from setting sun on the right side of the mountain. Notice the lack of ice other than a few small patches out from shore. When I went back to the boat dock this m...
