Re: lunch on the trail

I enjoy the tuna packets with tortillas. Put some precooked bacon on it when you start getting tired to just tuna. The longer the trip the more I get tired of the food I brought. Packit Gourmet is really good for breakfast & dinner Knorrs rice sides supplemented with harmony house dried onions, ...

Re: Water Filter

Anyone use this one http://sawyer.com/ sure seems lighter than the rest I bought a Sawyers mini and a regular version. I used the mini on the Snyder lake overnighter and again yesterday on the Siyeh hike. The Sawyer filter works fine. http://youtu.be/KKvVu9Q5T60 (when it is done loading) It's just ...

Re: Which Water Bottle?

I normally use Smart Water bottles when hiking or backpacking. They seam to fit really nicely in my side pockets of all my backpacks. I also use a water bottle holder attached to the shoulder strap of all my packs for use without stopping. For backpacking I also carry a 1.5L Evernew collapsible bott...

Anaconda Pintler Wilderness backpacking trip

I lived in Anaconda for three years and never ventured into this area. Of course I wasn't into backpacking then, but I am kicking my self in the butt for not getting to see that area better. Now I want to take another Montana trip soon and do some backpacking in this area. Anybody been? Looks like I...

Re: Bob Marshall Chinese wall hikes

I've got some maps and books ordered to find some trails. How long of a trip am I looking at to hike into and see the Chinese wall? Possible in 5 days? What other sights should I see in the area. The Chinese Wall at Cliff Mountain can be reached by trail in two days from the Benchmark trailhead on ...

Re: Highway US 89 between Choteau and Dupuyer

That is a cool highway. We drove it last summer going from Jackson Wy to East Glacier. My first time on it. Wind was kicking hard and the rental was floored.

Re: Bob Marshall Chinese wall hikes

Thanks orin. Most of the videos reports I've seen were 6-8 days or more. Maybe this will wait until next year when I'll have more time to plan being off work.

Re: Water Filter

I use a Sawyer Squeeze filter hooked up to a Sea to Summit 8L dry bag as a gravity filter. We used it for a two night trip with 35 scouts and parents and it was the only filter. Just fill it and let it fill my water bottle. If the water source is very small, just carry a small container and scoop ou...

Re: "Cold Camp" Backpacking Meal Suggestions/Recommendations

Tortillas with tuna from the foil packets. I like the spicy tuna flavored one. Add shelf stable bacon and I am happy with that meal. Maybe some protein shake for breakfast.

Can't ever have too many Snickers and cosmic brownies whether I have a stove or not.

Re: Hiking in wet footwear

I wear La Sportivia trail runners and Darn Tough socks. Just cross creeks and walk them dry. Normally within an hour they will be mostly dry. My feet sweat in gortex so they end up just as wet and never dry out later. Footgear is very personal preferance. Best thing to do is test gear around the yar...
