Re: Teton Crest Trail...Doug and Anita Tour 2015.

Wow! Awesome trip. I wish I'd accepted your invitation. My trip to Glacier was disappointing. The weather was nasty and a neck problem I've had in the recent past flared up.

Gunsight and Dawson/Pitamakan Loop in Sept

I really got lucky with the backcountry permits this year: Gunsight Lake on 9/3 and L. Ellen Wilson on 9/4, then No Name Lake on 9/8 and Oldman Lake on 9/9. On the other hand, I've had no luck finding a hiking companion. Anybody interested?

ride-sharing for Gunsight Pass Sept 3-5, 2015

I'll be starting the Gunsight Pass trail on 9/3/15 at the Jackson Glacier Overlook, and finishing on 9/5 at L. McDonald Lodge. My plan at this point is to drive from the Many Glacier campground to L. McDonald the morning of 9/3, park the car, and take the shuttle back to Jackson Glacier Overlook. Lo...

rain jacket + chaps

Sierra Designs recently introduced a unique rainwear option: a very long jacket paired with a pair of chaps. See it here: http://www.sierradesigns.com/product/elite-cagoule. The fabric itself is not breathable, but the garments are designed to allow a lot of airflow. Total weight of jacket and chaps...

My second trip to Glacier 9/4/14 - 9/13/14

My Second Trip to Glacier, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Snow. As soon as I returned from Glacier in September 2013, I began planning my second trip. I was stoked when I got backcountry permit reservations for the Gunsight Pass Trail and for a route from Lake St. Mary over Triple Di...

Re: socks

Thanks for the input, guys. Mark, I'm talking about early September in Glacier. For backpacking, I'll be wearing Vasque Taku boots, which are mid-rise, midweight, and all leather. For day hikes, I'll be wearing Merrell Moabs, which are low-rise, lightweight hikers. I wore some Merino wool socks from...

Re: packing for early September weather

Just to close the loop on this thread: Our first trip to GNP (9/5/13 - 9/12/13) was a total blast. We did a 2-night backpack to Glenn's Lake and back, and did day hikes the rest of the time. The weather was a little rainy for the first 3 days, then sunny and mild the rest. A single fleece plus a lig...

Re: G8: 8/30-9/15, 2013..."It's Like Disney, Only Real"

Todd: Gary, Roger and I had a great time hiking Cracker Lake with you and Kim. It was our first visit to Glacier, and you were an excellent tour guide. I only wish we had been able to spend more time with you. As you might imagine, I've been bitten by the Glacier bug, and can't wait to go back. Hope...

Re: glacier, in general, in september?????????

I just returned from the park; I was there from 9/4 till 9/12. It was my first visit, so I can't compare to other years. The popular trails - e.g. Iceberg Lake, Garden Wall, Hidden Lake - were pretty well populated with 2-legged critters. The backcountry sites we requested were not available. (We se...

Re: 7/19 - 7/28, 2013..."The Mountains Are Calling & I Must

As a GNP virgin, I'm really enjoying your reports, Todd, and learning a lot from them. My two buddies and I will be there from 9/4 - 9/13, probably using Many Glacier campground as our base camp. Hope to see you. Kim may be doing a hike and/or backpack with us as well.
