Labor Day Weekend Deluxe St Mary KOA Cabin Available

If anyone wants to plan a last minute trip to Glacier National Park for labor day weekend (Sep 1-5) I have a reservation for a deluxe cabin at the KOA in St. Mary which I apparently completely misread the cancellation policy for. Because I am within 60 days I cannot cancel or modify my reservation a...

trading reservations at many glacier hotel? have early sept '21, need late aug '21

Anyone ever heard of such a thing or know where/how I might find someone with whom to trade? lol Have reservations for the first few nights of september 2021, but was informed by my wife that our son will be starting preschool in the fall and she is concerned about him missing the first week (or two...

Re: any pro tips for apparently last minute lodging? (Aug/Sep)

SO! Good news! We took your advice and booked a cabin at the KOA so we would have a place to stay... Bad news! A few weeks later a pandemic happened and we subsequently cancelled our travel plans for this year (which is just as well because the campground closed for the year also). Good news! Planni...

Re: camping....around labor day....with a toddler?

Thanks for the advice...we are definitely not planning/trying to just wing it and get FCFS lodging when we are there, thats not even on the table. We have scoped out airfare and had tickets ready to go for a few weeks now, but we dont want to commit until we understand the lodging situation. At ~300...

Re: camping....around labor day....with a toddler?

I am aware of how hard it can be...i was going to try in the next week or so as the days we are considering open up at many glacier campground...might get lucky. Thanks for the KOA tip, that looks like it could be a good option for us. Those cabins at KOA dont have heat do they? EDIT: I see on the s...

camping....around labor day....with a toddler?

Trying to plan a trip to Glacier (and Banff/Jasper) for this year. Trip would be around the last week of august/first week of septemberish. To save money, and because i apparently missed the window to get hotel reservations in the park anyway...we were thinking about camping, maybe 2-3 nights at man...

Re: any pro tips for apparently last minute lodging? (Aug/S

thanks for the information...so i guess its not just me and the park is actually a lot busier these days :) its a tough call, we have flexibility on dates now but I would like to lock in our airfare while its cheap...and then we will have less flexibility. Almost makes me wonder if we should cancel ...

any pro tips for apparently last minute lodging? (Aug/Sep)

I have been to glacier twice before, but it has been almost 10 years since the last trip. Our plan was to fly into calgary and do jasper/banff/glacier (we love glacier and have never been to the canadian parks). I know I booked my travel later than this last time so I was quite surprised to find thi...

Re: Solo Hiking in GNP, July 9-12

I think this trip has been cancelled unfortuantely (the cost was just getting to be too much for a quick add-on last minute trip)....I had changed my mind anyway though to just doing the dawson loop as an overnighter and then maybe out to granite and back to logan pass. My tent is an REI half dome 2...

Re: overnite camping

how does one go about making Dawson-Pitamakin an overnighter? I need to apply for a BC permit and one of the camp sites you mentioned (oldman lake or no name lake)? Are these BC sites just tent pads or do they have pit toilets or fire rings or anything like that? When at BC sites like this do you ne...

Re: Ptarmigan Tunnel to Ahern Pass via Pinnacle Wall Goat Tr

I found writeups and pictures of this trail back when I first started researching GNP for my first trip and immediately it had my attention. I was not previously aware however that it could connect with a climb DOWN to iceberg lake (went to iceberg on my first visit so I can appreciate how impressiv...

Re: GNP in late september?

thanks for all the info....its funny you guys mention the story about running into snow at ptarmigan. When I was at GNP a couple years ago (probably second week of sept) I ran into a couple guys at the junction of the trail to ptarmigan tunnel and the trail to iceberg lake (where we were going). The...

Re: Solo Hiking in GNP, July 9-12

I have read places that the dawson loop can either be an overnighter or done as a strenuous dayhike (as you mentioned)....I take that as meaning (since im not a frequent hiker and I dont really know my limits just yet) that i would be best off taking it on as an overnighter...but then of course I am...
