Re: Action at Avalanche Lake

And just when we thought that there was no good journalism anymore. Hungry Horse News on the scene!

Perhaps Glacier needs to add "don't try to swim away from a grizzly" to their backcountry bear safety video.

Re: One Star Glacier Reviews

I love it!! Spread the word!! GNP is the pits, so do not go there! Hopefully the clueless idiots who spoil the park will start staying away.... I couldn't agree more! I think the way they've presented it is perfect. (No need to preface it with "We've collected some of the most ridiculous comme...

Re: Marriage proposal in Glacier

Do you plan to backcountry camp or to day hike from your car? What kind of hiking (distance, difficulty level) do you expect to do?

This kind of info will help us to make some recommendations.

Re: Glacier before the Permit system

It looks like the Glacier designated backcountry campsite and itinerary system was established in 1973. See page 13 here: https://scholarworks.umt.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=2538&context=etd "The designated campsite system was adopted in Glacier National Park in 1973. The system and Gl...

Re: Mountain goats

You're welcome! I learned a few things looking that up as well. Here are some mountain goat pics from the Hidden Lake Overlook trail a couple weeks ago: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50189413496_32a044b4e8_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50189402016_fe1703d1a0_z.jpg https://live.stat...

Re: Mountain goats

Here's what's described under "Aggressive behavior" on this Wikipedia page for mountain goats: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_goat Nannies can be very competitive and protective of their space and food sources. They fight with one another for dominance in conflicts that can ultimat...

Re: Fatality on Dragon's Tail

We were up at Logan Pass and walked out to the Hidden Lake overlook yesterday morning. It was a zoo. Masses of people. A couple of guys climbing up the snow fields and snowboarding down them. A woman crossing one of the snow fields in flip flops, carrying a purse. Litter. Crowds. We got out of there...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

We drove from Choteau up through Browning on 89 yesterday, then over Hwy 2 and hiked up to Firebrand Pass. Not many cars or people over there....then out through West Glacier, and tons of traffic and people on the west side. Two different worlds!

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

It looks like they took your suggestion! When they updated it yesterday, they changed the headline to state "Glacier National Park Partially Reopens - Expect High Visitation Levels and Limited Parking" Yes! They replied to me a couple of days ago and thanked me for the suggestion...and I ...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

I just submitted this suggestion on the Glacier NPS site: Here is very easy way to significantly increase awareness of the traffic and congestion issues that you're experiencing at the west side entrances: On the main Glacier NPS page, instead of the banner saying only that part of the park is close...

Re: Latest 2020 Season Opening News

The Glacier NPS website's status page was updated yesterday: https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/statusupdate.htm Not sure what all is new on the page, but this caught my eye: "The Highline Trail is still officially closed. Initial clearing of that trail is not scheduled until July 15."...

Re: GNP 2019 - SBE to KLE

Next time while waiting at the shuttle stop(any shuttle stop), put your thumb out, aggressively so . Take whatever ride comes first. Often as not you will get a ride all the way to your destination. That plan works better if you have a sign to hold that is neatly printed on white paper with a "...
