Re: 2024 Lottery Results

I ought to start investing in Recreation.gov's parent company. The amount of money I pay this company every year in lottery fees to ultimately get nothing is ridiculous.

Ptarmigan Tunnel Opening Date 2023?

Hi Chatters,

I have been thinking of changing my dates to visit Glacier this year, and I have been searching to find out the typical opening date for the Ptarmigan Tunnel in a snow year like 2023. Any guesses?

Thank you!

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

I was able to eek a permit out. I was trying to get a North Circle with a MAN, REY and SPE add on at the end. That was stressful. I was able to get: FLA FIF MOJ ELH MAN I plan to try to get GRN as the first night and maybe MOL as the third night, and add on REY and SPE at the end, when I pick up the...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

So that I understand, on March 15th 3000 or more people are going to be trying to snag at the same time the limited campsites to assemble their own itineraries? Yikes, this is going to be messy.

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

The good news is the permits are refundable up to 7 days prior to trip start date. Hopefully that cuts down on the number of no-shows. Bummer that the North Fork is shutdown starting in September though. Might put pressure on other areas in September. That's good. That is the only comment I submitt...

Re: Wilderness Permits 2023

Not sure how I feel about this. It seems we are going back to the whoever has the fastest internet will get what they want. I was shut out last year only to see many popular routes like the North Circle open up the day before or the day of the start. Makes me think there are many no shows. Whatever ...

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

Yes I gave them the option to reverse the route, substitute campgrounds, make it shorter, etc. I am actually surprised I got a rejection because I gave them 4 options two of which are in totally separate areas of the park.

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

I’m still in awe of that itinerary. 12 nights is one challenge, but some of those segments are no cupcakes. Great site selection and route. After some misses the last couple years, I’m pulling for you Paul! It really is an epic trip. It's like the best of Glacier. Permits are so hard to get now I u...

That's a great trip HoustonHiker. I put in for something similar as my first choice, a North Circle with ELL and SPE at the end.

Re: BackCountry Permits 2022

Yeah I think this is also going to cause a lot of abandoned or not used permits. If people don't hear back in a reasonable time they may make other plans, or flights and car rentals will not be available. So they will just not use or cancel their permits. May be a good year to do walkup after all.
